History
- From Shojingawa to new Horikawa
- Shojingawa (it does not occur) (said that this name was attached because a Shinto priest of Atsuta-jingu Shrine made ablutions in this river in the case of 祓 of Nagoshi of June in old days) which flowed through the Nagoya plateau [1] as the source in Imaike area had the rich quantity of water with many springs, but the land along a river which wound caused the flood once. A plan to repair as a canal in (1883) in 1883 was built to prevent the outbreak of this flood, and to assume it the navigation of the ship and a saucer of the sewerage treatment water, and I was changed in (1910) in 1910 by current land along a river. In the case of this change, the name new Horikawa was acquired. In addition, original Shojingawa is filled up in (1926) in 1926 and becomes extinct.
- The present conditions
- Under the influence of sedimentation of the sludge for many years, floating of the sludge is seen for the intense heat period in particular, and the bad smell is severe, too. This does not have a river flowing in, and this is because the whole area becomes the feeling tide area because it is dug a design from the junction department to the Atsuta Port to the most deep part in those days excavated as a canal as approximately horizontal.
- The management authority of the river is transferred to Nagoya-shi (2007) from Aichi on April 1 in 2007 [2].
