Kaikyo Line (I buy it and cannot offer it) is a pike of Hokkaido Railway Co. (Hokkaido Railway) which links Kikonai Station of Kikonai-cho, Kamiiso-gun, Hokkaido to Naka-Oguni Station of Sotogahama-machi, Higashitsugaru-gun, Aomori of Honshu through the Seikan Tunnel dug under the bottom of the sea of the Tsugaru Strait (local transportation).

Of East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) Tsugaru Line which all trains communicate directly before the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business and Hokkaido Railway Esashi Line (Southern Hokkaido いさりび rail line after the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business), Hakodate Main Line a nickname of "Tsugaru Kaikyo Line" [2] was attached in conjunction with some sections each. Even commercial timetables such as "JR timetable" of Transportation News Co., Ltd. and "JTB timetable" [explanatory note 1] of the JTB publishing were guided as "Tsugaru Kaikyo Line", and it was rare that I was guided as "Kaikyo Line". "Kaikyo Line" as the old line was the run only for freight train, group special trains [explanatory note 2], and, after the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business of March 26, 2016, it was a non-publication with a route map, the text from April, 2016 issue with "JR timetable "・" JTB timetable". In addition, the nickname of "Tsugaru Kaikyo Line" was abolished.

Summary

Kaikyo Line opened Honshu and Hokkaido as JR line to contact in substitution for Seikan route (Seikan ferry) navigated conventionally (1988) between Aomori Station - Hakodate Station on March 13 in 1988 after Japanese National Railways division and privatization.

A lot of trains which link Hokkaido to Honshu are operated. Because it was built in Shinkansen standard in consideration of common use with the Hokkaido Shinkansen, it becomes the virtual super limited express method. Only the track for the old line of the narrow gauge was laid at the time of the opening of business, but I added [news 2] [news 3], a rail for the Shinkansen of the standard gauge for the opening of business of the Hokkaido Shinkansen of March 26 (2016) in 2016 and was made a sanshin rail. It becomes the common use run section that the freight train of the old line shares a track with Shinkansen train, and is operated after the Shinkansen opening of business. In the turning point of the Hokkaido Shinkansen and the old line, the north side (Hokkaido gathering) of the new average small country signal box, the Hokkaido side are established in the west (Honshu gathering) of Kikonai Station Aomori side; after the opening of business corresponding to it become linear.

As for the security, an automatic train control (ATC) was adopted, and the ATC-L type which had compatibility with analog ATC (ATC-2 type) used in the whole line (Tokyo Station - Morioka Station interval) of the Tohoku Shinkansen at the time of the opening of business was introduced. But the compatibility maintenance with the Shinkansen did not have a meaning because JR pushed forward the digitization of the ATC system of the Shinkansen, and the whole line shifted to digital ATC (DS-ATC) by Tohoku Shinkansen (2007) from July 22 in 2007 [explanatory note 3]. Kaikyo Line introduces digital ATC (DS-ATC) to the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business, too.

The opening of business was original, and Tappi-Kaitei Station, Yoshiokakaitei Station was established in the Seikan Tunnel. These were the visit facilities which utilized the refuge facilities of the tunnel and were the special station which the general traveler except the visitor could not use. Because Yoshiokakaitei Station was used as a material base of the Hokkaido Shinkansen construction, the end [news 4] did the stop of the train (2006) for a fixed period on March 18 2006, and a visit course was canceled from August 28, the same year, and it was all train passage [news 5]; [newspaper 1]. A visit course was finished (2013) from November 11 in 2013, and Tappi-Kaitei Station became all train passage, too [news 6].

After Tappi-Kaitei Station, Yoshiokakaitei Station, Shiriuchi Station was abolished (2014) on March 15 2014 [news 7], in [newspaper 2] [newspaper 3], the Tsugaru-Imabetsu Station (station now another from March 26, 2016 Okutsugaru) - Kikonai Station interval of our route, it was in the section where had a long distance between the station most by all routes of JR (a working kilometer: 74.8km); [explanatory note 4]. Nakama Station of our route became only Tsugaru-Imabetsu Station [newspaper 3], but was all train passage (2015) from August 10 [news 8], and Tsugaru-Imabetsu Station was abolished in exchange for [newspaper 4] [newspaper 5], the Okutsugaru just different station opening of business of the Hokkaido Shinkansen 2015, too [news 9]; [newspaper 6].

Service form

After the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business, the passenger train as the old line is not operated except a group special train only in carriage of goods basically. There is not the train of Kaikyo Line alone, and all trains arrive and depart from Aomori Station and the Goryokaku Station beyond. In addition, all trains of Kaikyo Line pass Naka-Oguni Station of the starting point.

As for the passenger train, the bed limited express "Sea of Japan" "Great Bear" and a limited express "were pickled" after the Kaikyo Line opening of business of March 13 (1988) in 1988, and, other than express "はまなす," the high speed "straits" were operated between Aomori Station - Hakodate Station, but a transport scene between Hachinohe Station - Aomori Station - Hakodate Station was reviewed in time schedule revision with the Tohoku Shinkansen Hachinohe Station extension on December 1 (2002) in 2002, and the "immersed" "straits" were abolished [4], and I took place, and a limited express "supermarket swan" "swan" was set between Aomori Station - Hakodate Station [news 12]. After this, only a limited express train, the express train which communicated from the Aomori Station area on the Honshu side the Hakodate Station area on the Hokkaido side directly was set to Kaikyo Line, and it was in the section where there was not the setting of the local train (I include high speed).

Therefore, between each station aspect each other between Tsugaru Line Kanita Station - Kikonai Station, the exception that could take the common car unreserved seat of the limited express train only with a ticket was established. This is the second case since Sekisho Line Shin-Yubari Station - Shintoku Station interval of same Hokkaido Railway applied it with the line opening to traffic of October 1 (1981) in 1981 of the Japanese National Railways (Japanese National Railways) times. In addition, this exception was finished virtually because the periodical passenger train of the old line which went by way of Kaikyo Line (2016) on March 21 in 2016 finished service.

Freight train

As artery of the distribution to bind Honshu and Hokkaido together, a lot of freight trains by Japan Freight Railway Co. (JR freight) are set, and stability transportation of the freight which is hard to depend on the weather in comparison with aviation, a ship is the greatest significance of existence of this route.

In addition, as for the freight train which went along Kaikyo Line (1994) from revised time on March 1 in 1994, a complete container completed making it it and the car handling transportation left first grade transportation and almost became extinct. A container train is the center now, and, as for some freight including dangerous materials, transportation via the Seikan Tunnel is limited for safety measures [5]; (refer to the Seikan Tunnel # run vehicle).

Tie-up plan

"The Doraemon bottom of the sea train" of the high speed "straits" times. Character is drawn on the body

A tie-up with comics, animated cartoon "Doraemon" of Fujiko, F, Fujio was started in 1998. The driving of "the Doraemon bottom of the sea train" which painted the character of the work by the same author product a passenger car and the locomotive of the operated high speed "straits" was performed and the exhibit space of the work by the same author product to be labelled as "Doraemon bottom of the sea world" at Yoshiokakaitei Station was established and did it at that time. From the summer of 2003 after the "straits" abolition, limited express "Doraemon bottom of the sea train" was run as all car seat reservation trains for exclusive use of the visit to Yoshiokakaitei Station between Hakodate Station - Yoshiokakaitei Station.

With visit course cancellation [news 4] of Yoshiokakaitei Station, this tie-up plan wants to finish the driving of "the Doraemon bottom of the sea train" of August 27 last (2006) 2006 [news 5]; [newspaper 1].

A trial run before the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business and the prior confirmation of facilities above the ground and the last reshuffling

Kaikyo Line carried out 3 coming and going degree a day, trial run by the training driving using the H5 system for the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business of March 26 four times a week (2016) between new Hakodate Hokuto Station - Shin-Aomori Station from night 1:00 to about 3:30 in 2016. In this time, I changed signal preservation facilities to DS-ATC for the Shinkansen to 25,000V from 20,000V with the overhead wire voltage each from ATC-L for the old line, and I did it, and service of the Shinkansen was performed in [explanatory note 7], the whole line by a possible state by standing, and giving Hokkaido Shinkansen synthesis system (CYGNUS) after having stopped old line use between these wards, and connecting a service system of administration to Shinkansen synthesis system (COSMOS) of JR East.

I return the overhead wire voltage, signal preservation facilities, a service system of administration for old lines after the trial run, but cannot make a trial of the freight train by the EH800 form traction running old line - common use run section (Kaikyo Line) - old line operated after the opening of business in this. Therefore let the train of the old line which passed Kaikyo Line suspend for the above all day, and changed all to form after the opening of business because a change, the service system of administration connected old line use and CYGNUS to 25,000V and DS-ATC with the overhead wire voltage and signal preservation facilities, and the prior confirmation of the change was carried out the ground facilities which confirmed what a service system after the opening of business was stable in the state that ran the Shinkansen and the both sides of the freight train with being able to communicate the common use run section directly in common use run section (Kaikyo Line) for 24 hours, and operated a freight train (2016) for the last time on January 1 in 2016 by an old line [news 28]; [news 29] [news 30].

In addition, I hung it on 25th from March 21, the same year to be several days before the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening of business, and the ground facilities last change which changed all the overhead wire voltage, signal preservation facilities, a service system of administration to form after the opening of business was carried out, and it was suspension [6], but the old line train which passed Kaikyo Line for several days traveled during this period because [news 19] [news 20], the freight train coped with the overhead wire voltage, signal preservation facilities, the service system of administration after the change [news 31].
