PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft (British: PeopleSoft, Inc.) was a software company of the United States of America, but, in January, 2005, I was purchased by Oracle. I sold applications software such as HRMS (human resource management system), CRM (customer relationship management), production, financial affairs, EPM (company performance management), the student management mainly for a big company, a government office, various groups.

Product design

JD Edwards

In 2003, PeopleSoft merged with JD Edwards which was a rival company friendly. The selection of both companies was similar, but a customer scale to intend for had a bigger PeopleSoft (JD Edwards can turn to the medium and small-sized business). This merger produced favorable synergy. The line of products called World of JD Edwards and OneWorld is characterized by Configurable Network Architecture (the CNC architecture). This architecture performs application and separation with the operating system of the database server and offers a kind of SQL language. Therefore, I support DB2/UDB of IBM, SQL 2000 of Microsoft, a database of the Oracle. A customer of JD Edwards is AS/400 user of IBM mainly and will receive support sequentially.

For a server, the thing that Linux and Windows work any place other than AS/400 is available.

Oracle

The beginning of 2003, PeopleSoft fell into the situation that fought for the right of management with the Oracle. In June, 2003, Oracle suggested the antagonistic purchase for 7 billion dollars (19.5 dollars per share). In February, 2004, Oracle raised a buying price and did it with 9,400 million dollars (26 dollars per share), but this was refused in the board of directors of PeopleSoft, too. In the same month, the American Department of Justice filed a suit to stop a purchase act of the Oracle saying that there might be the violation of antitrust law. However, in September, 2004, Federal court rejected a suit as lack of evidence. European Commission made the decision to be similar in October, too. Oracle lowered a buying price to 7,700 million dollars in May, but nominated it for 9,400 million dollars in November.

In November, 2004, Oracle announced that I reached the final agreement to acquire PeopleSoft for approximately 10,300 million dollars (26.5 dollars per share). In January, 2005, Oracle executes mass layoffs on employees of PeopleSoft. It was 9% of 55,000 employees and did this when I could just continue the duties such as other employees and development of products, support for the time being. Oracle announced that I released new product Oracle Fusion Applications by the merger with PeopleSoft in the near future. This carried PeopleSoft and the best part of the application of JD Edwards on board on the database of the Oracle.

Oracle guarantees to continue support to the customer who wants to continue just using the existing product.

Problem concerning the university user

For 1,997 years, Cleveland State University (CSU) adopted software of PeopleSoft to manage the record of the student. Kaludis Consulting Group Inc. was in charge of implementation at first. For the next seven years, I was troubled by repeated problems, and CSU filed a suit. I appeal for Kaldius at first, and PeopleSoft will claim that, on the contrary, it is appealed by Kaldius, too. I demanded compensation for damages of 510 million dollars by a breach of contract, fraud. Software of PeopleSoft did not have an appointed function, and the university studies insisted that, as a result, they would be busy with coping. I insist that PeopleSoft provided the best thing throughout the trade. According to the available court document, this problem was settled online in 2005. According to the agreement, the compensation payment from Kaldius to the university was carried out, but it is considered that PeopleSoft paid nothing.

7 universities which used the software of PeopleSoft of the Big Ten conference in December, 1999 sent the exhibition letter which requested quality and improvement of the performance to PeopleSoft's CEO.

I adopted a product of PeopleSoft in California State University from the 2000s. The university studies spent this system 500 million dollars to operate it normally, and this became the problem in a state legislature. The inspector of California criticized university studies in a report. PeopleCode

PeopleCode is an original object oriented programming language to describe a business logic for application of PeopleSoft. The grammar does not change with other object oriented languages very much. For example, I can refer to a definition of PeopleTools even if I do not hardcode re-TERAL character string by cf. definition name. Close cooperation with PeopleTools and the SQL influences other language functions (data type and meta string). The dot scale of a class name and the method name resembles other languages such as the JAVA closely.
