On October 11, 1968, エイゼル was chosen by a command module pilot of Apollo 7 who became the first space trip for the third astronaut. エイゼル let Saturn rocket IB rocket and moon module make a rendezvous with Walter scilla of the captain, Walter Cunningham of the moon module pilot. They let eight examinations succeed and fired it by manual operation with the promotion engine of the service module. They measured the precision of all systems of the spaceship again, and the program of effective TV went for the first time on board.

Apollo 7 flew over distant visible point 284.3km, earth orbit of perigee 227.1km. For 260 hours, the flight of 7,250,000km landed at the point of 15km from carrier Essex on the Atlantic on October 22, 1968 and was over. This was an error of 0.6km a short distance from the planned point. エイゼル spent 260 hours in space.

エイゼル acted as the backup of the command module pilot in Apollo 10 of 1969 again. エイゼル left the astronaut room in 1970 and became a technical assistant of the manned space flight in Langley Research Center of NASA. I resigned from both NASA and air force in 1972.
