People line character
The people line character (yes, I grow on) is custom of how to put names of the Chinese area and, every generation of the same family, says that I use the specific kanji for excellent (諱). I do not make a common use of it in kanji itself and may use same a left-hand radical and a right-hand radical of a Chinese character.
The name does not maintain the same, and there are various names including character people. I am called a line character in Korean.

Summary
The upper and the lower classes of the generation are important in the Confucianism society, and it is necessary to express respect to the human being in a generation above oneself even if younger, and the name changes, too. The people line character indicating one's belonging generation (people act for people) shows a generation clearly; have a meaning.
Generally, it is maintained decision not a parent deciding it by the meeting of the family and is written down what you use for people line handwriting to the family chart. It often becomes the form of the poetry to facilitate memory.

in Japan
