Origin
IwateRikuzentakata-shiA native place. Masters degree course in 1984 Tsukuba University art graduate course completion. I continue working on a shift after graduation from university including a photograph under the influence of Seiji Otsuji in Tokyo.
Because there was a large-scale limestone mine near the birthplace, I drew these digging spots and factories on the oil paintings from high school days. After having left the university, I went around the various parts of Japan including Iwate and came to photograph at the spot and the lime factory of the limestone mine, the moment of the blasting charge or urban building group or culvert. These works from the raw materials (mine of limestone and the coal, lime factory, Mt. of the French coal mine Botha, working trace of the stone of the Paris basement) of the city including the backside (the inside of the Shibuya River flowing between buildings and the culvert of the city) of the dismantling (Osaka Stadium and the dismantling that became house exhibit space), the city of cityscape (overlook of the city judging from the high place), the city is concerned with the problem of the city throughout. In addition, after stays in the U.K., I wrestle for a certain thing of the form including the drop of water which there was all over the windowpane of steam and the car of the factory, the photography of the circulating thing and photography of the working of nature of Takayama. For publication "a contour line" of 1983 "lime works" "Citta in negativo" of 1996.
A photo exhibition wins the 22nd Ihee Kimura Prize a collection of photographs "lime works" by "マケット of the city" in 1997. I am chosen as one of the representatives from Japan for "the Venice Biennale" that is a world's largest international art exhibition in 2001. Every 42nd wins a prize for art by the same year, collection of photographs "underground" on a day. The birthplace of Rikuzentakata is washed away by a tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March, 2011 and performs the photography that I often come back to the hometown afterward. In 2012, I win recommendation of art Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Prize in large-scale private exhibition "Natural Stories" in the Tokyo photograph Museum.
