The car that Ferrari 250LM produced it because Ferrari of the Italian car manufacturer made up for a fighting power drop of late GT car 250GTO. It is an initial of Le Mans (Le Mans) with LM of 250LM.
Summary
Ferrari felt a limit in 250GTO of the front engine model that acquired the consecutive championships by GT III championship from 1962 through 1964 for three years and introduced 250LM which took the mid ship layout as a development type succession model in Paris salon in the autumn of 1963.
Because I assume the displacement volume per 1 cylinder a car name after the fashion of a previous example, 250 shows 250cc *12 cylinder = 3,000cc (really 2,953cc). The car which carried this 3L engine showed 300PS, but may be called 275LM because it was really equipped with 3,286cc/305PS engine (275cc per 1 cylinder) except first one (chassis No. 5149).
There was the rule that must produce 100 or more for consecutive 12 months to participate in GT championship, but production did not advance as expected in those days because Ferrari at the time did not have the facilities which I could mass-produce.
E Ferrari applied to FIA for 250LM which production does not go ahead through as expected as an evolution model of 250GT, but I was not authorized unlike time of 250GTO by FIA. In 250LM, it couldn't but be to the entry in the prototype class after all because the output was confined to 32 including prototypic one and did not get homologation of GT III. E Ferrari who got angry at this decision appeared in the strong measures not to let marketing-shaped Ferrari car have an entry for GT championship of 1965 (275GTB/C does the only entry only for Le Mans 24-Hour Race of this age).
