Hozuma Katori (かとりほつま, from January 1, 1874 to January 31, 1954) is a Japanese casting industrial arts writer, poet. I established history of metalworking as the study and was superior as a researcher. I am presented with the first Order of Culture as an industrial artist of the art in Japan. Tokyo Bijutsu school (current Tokyo art university) professor, a member of the Japan Academy of Arts.
I successively hold a member of Imperial House Museum (the current Tokyo National Museum) art, a Managing Director at national treasure preservation society committee, a committee specialized in a council for cultural assets. As for the Hotsuma phonetic symbol, the real name is 秀治郎 in a pen name. Masahiko Katori who is living national treasure of the metalworking is the eldest son.

Life

It is the adopted child of chief priest of many hemp Shrine to congratulate of Sakura, the Shu Gunshi rope at 5 years old though I am born in Funao-mura, Inba-gun, Chiba (current Inzai-shi). I return to parents at one time, but spend ten years from 7 years old in Sakura. In around Sakura, a lot of remains and old temples had the interest to the ancient times towards the Hotsuma phonetic symbol since I was young. In 1889, I learn from Sakura collection school (current Chiba Prefectural Sakura Senior High School). In addition, I began to make a 31-syllable Japanese poem and I copied collection of books "Manyoshu tanka collection" of the Sakura collection school and learned versification. The interest from this time to the ancient times becomes stronger and come to want to make the Buddha statues which seemed to be made from old days with a hand of oneself. Therefore I applied when the Hotsuma phonetic symbol wanted to go to Tokyo in 秀綱. When a Hotsuma phonetic symbol appeared in Tokyo and became a master craftsman of Buddhist image, the person that it was to the chief priest of the many Shinto shrines which congratulated hemp following the back disappeared, but 秀綱自身 took the wish because the ability of the Hotsuma phonetic symbol admitted in people superior in study. Besides, the fund of Kamigyo sold inherited land from generation to generation and prepared. The Hotsuma phonetic symbol reviews it later saying it "depends on the benefit of the step father I go to Tokyo, and to have been able to study.". I lived a life with some pupils without being alone, and it being possible because I made a model and a mold to perform casting and dissolved metal. I return to a wife, たまが, the hometown that could not be worthy of extreme poverty life before long, and the Hotsuma phonetic symbol is at a loss. In addition, I work on a study of the history of metalworking, and the academic books including "history of metalworking "metalworking historical story" "日本鋳工史" in Japan" exceed 40 and leave at the same time many theses. In addition, I made an effort with Nobuo Tsuda of the same town by the department of industrial arts setting of the empire art exhibition (current Nitten) and worked hard to let you recognize a metalworker (metalcraft) as art socially. It was permitted that I played an active part as a poet of the Japanese yew group of Sachio Ito, Takashi Nagatsuka and others and the Shiki Masaoka Negishi tanka society of the same discipline, and 奏上 did 召歌 as a chamber-maid of the Imperial New Year Poetry Party in the Imperial Court New Year in 1954. I published several songbooks including "天之真榊" during the lifetime. It is said that there was friendship with Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Kyoshi Takahama of the novelist.

I die at 81 years old because of acute pneumonia in 1954 [2]. The cemetery Gotokuji (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo).

I produced a work of the utility serious consideration while the work of the Hotsuma phonetic symbol being called "classicism" "tradition group", and doing the Orient and Japanese old form, pattern with basics.

It is the Hotsuma phonetic symbol of the tradition group, but it reaches to add form by the new trend of thought and new imagination characteristics to a work. For example, in "the Chinese phoenix incense lamp which is one of the works of the Hotsuma phonetic symbol," I put a face and the hands and feet of the realistic animal together in the form from the ancient times. The face of the Chinese phoenix is characterized by the form which was round in comparison with a previous Chinese phoenix. In addition, as for the leg of the dove, linear chamfering to remind you of are デコ is done while an old pattern being made on a wing in "a dove incense lamp", and keeping a classic image, and it is in the work which was conscious of a new claim.
