旗護山 (はたごやま) is the mountain of located in the border Tsuruga-shi, Fukui and Mihama-cho.

Summary

There is Seki Pass of the border of Wakasa country and the Echizen country of the old name of a country, and Tango highway (Wakasa Highway) goes to the immediate south of 旗護山. Prefectural road 225 (former National highway No. 27) and JR Obama Line go and become the strategic point of the traffic even now (present National highway No. 27 links Mihama-cho to Tsuruga-shi in 旗護山 tunnel). Therefore, 旗護山 overlooking the Seki Pass was an important base in military affairs. This that Katsuhisa Awaya who was the Kuniyoshi lord of a castle of Sagaki, Mihama-cho put up a flagpole on the mountaintop to check an army of Asakura whom I attacked for a Wakasa attack for the age of civil strife is said to be an origin of Yamana of 旗護山.

Mountain climbing

The mountain trail uses a power transmission line round of inspection road from the neighborhood of Seki Pass. A third-class triangulation point (threshold name "Kutsumi") of 318.2m is on the mountaintop of 旗護山, but the view does not work. Furthermore, it is the place where the prospects of Wakasa-wan Bay with the small temple of Atago Shrine are good for around 339m above sea level when I go ahead through the ridge circle to the north. A forest road is attached to the east side of the ridge close to the Shinto shrine and appears to the Nishihara district when I trace the forest road and withdraw. This forest road is available for the traffic of the car and can go up to around the last Shinto shrines. A way spreads out more from Atago Shrine in the north ridge, but I am in the middle of reaching the peak of 400.9m with the fourth class triangulation point (a threshold name "relationship valley"), and a way breaks off. A fence for the prevention of beast harm is installed along 旗護山麓, and attention is necessary to close a gate at the time of a descent from a mountain and climbing a mountain.
