WebBoy (Web boy) is a Web browser for the DOS that IBM developed.

Summary

It was a Web browser for the DOS (DOS/V), and WebBoy was released from IBM JAPAN in 1997 [1].

In spite of DOS use, World Wide Web indication in a text and the graphic was possible, and WebBoy had a mail client function [1].

The first version was 3.0, and 2 following versions were released.

  • IBM WebBoy for DOS Version 3.0 (April, 1997 release, HTML3.2 conformity, October, 1998 suspension of the sale)
  • IBM WebBoy for DOS Version 4.0 (October, 1998 release, November, 2002 suspension of the sale including remote control function, JavaScript 1.1)

It does not support Unicode about the Japanese indication.

Remarks

IBM JAPAN did WebBoy with the first of "the recycling wear" for only DOS to utilize the old personal computer which did not work again as an Internet terminal [1]. The bundle package "green software package with PC DOS 2000 was announced in March, 2000, too".

IBM JAPAN is the Japanese software which I developed originally, and WebBoy is not sold any place other than Japan.

(SoftBank) where a book "changed art of WebBoy utilization - DOS machine into at an Internet-only opportunity" in 1997 was published.
