Distribution
It is said that I am distributed over Asia, Australia including Japan [2]. I grow it in wetlands and a reservoir, a river, the waterway [2].
Form, habits
Perennial plant [1] [2]. A leaf is a linear leaf of radical growths; 10-80cm in length, 3-9mm in width [2]. With the saw teeth which are particular about a relationship of the tip of the leaf [1] [2]. I lengthen a creeping stem and grow up.
The flower of the Vallisneria asiatica in a hydrophilous flower (en) the flowering season from August to October [1]. A female flower does not have a petal and, in dioecism, flowers on the surface of the water. The male flower floats on the surface of the water apart from an underwater flower stalk and produces a lot of white pollen [1]. The pollen drifts on the surface of the water and I arrive to a female flower flowering on the surface of the water and am pollinated [1].
Variety
- ネジレモ (V. a. var. biwaensis)
- The endemic species of Lake Biwa, the Yodogawa water system. A cultivated stock is sold for aquarium use.
- ヒロハノセキショウモ (ヒラモ, V. a. var. higoensis)
- A Japanese endemic species. There is slightly wide difference between the width of the leaf.
Resemblance class
I resemble congeneric Vallisneria denseserrulata, but a point and the underground with saw teeth can distinguish the Vallisneria denseserrulata in the whole leaf edge at points forming 殖芽. In addition, I resemble a plant of the bur reed genus to add the agallochum leaf including the Nagae bur reed to, but the distinction is easy by comparing the state of saw teeth and the leaf vein [2].
Use
Like other Vallisneria asiatica genus plants, it may be used with an aquarium. The name of the case may be considered to be the Bali shin rear of the generic name. I say ヘラモ (篦藻) [3] and eat it in a ceremony of the handy pounder festival holding a service for them by the legend that the stranger who drifted to the beach of Yashiro, Obama-shi, Fukui tides over starvation and ate [4].
