The Toyota R type engine (Toyota R engine) is a system of the water-cooled inline four-cylinder gasoline engine of Toyota Motor Corporation.
The engine which represents Toyota used from a car, a station wagon, a bus, a truck, a four-wheel drive car to a racing car widely.

I am lumped together with an R type, but I am named the engine of the early design and the engine in the days of the most close in another thing really by the attachment to an R type of the maker. It is wide with OHV, SOHC, DOHC about the structure of a valve.

- I was developed as the 1,500cc grade engine that was the upper limit of the Japanese compact car standard in at 1953. I largely improved the output of each Toyopet car troubled by the 1,000cc grade side valve .30 ps S type engine deployment which was not worth it by disability till then.
- I drove a thimble (cylinder liner) after the abrasion in the cylinder founding a head under the influence of materials poor quality or immaturity, a dust storm of surface-treating it as for the automobile engine at the time regularly intensely, and having put internal, grinding it, and "bowling work" to grind the inside, and to get rule displacement volume and clearance was essential. The reason why an early R type adopts odd displacement volume of 1,453cc daringly is that I give an engine block thickness to become the margin to grind at the time of the bowling beforehand. I did not need bowling and became able to increase the displacement volume with materials improvement and surface processing technique improvement later to the standard limit.
