Geography
In a county located in the basin of the Kei forest River which is a branch of the Yalu Jiang, there is Yalu Jiang at the position changing a direction from the south to the southwest.
I border Koyama county to the southeast a cloud interest county to the south Miike deep water county, Shiraiwa county to the north.

History
It was a part of the Hamgyong-namdo Koyama county (Hyesan county discrete from there) for the colony period. Canopy of heaven county is a jurisdiction divided from the Hyesan county in 1952.
The loop called 普天邑 calls a former name 普天堡 (ポチョンボ, ふてんほ), and it is known now in fight (1937) of 普天堡 which Kim Il Sung went.
