Warship career

Rei Sting started work at Portsmouth navy shipyard of State of Maine Kita Lee on October 1, 1936. I name it it by the widow of the Ridley McLean major general having a career of the prominent submarine duty on October 6, 1937 and am launched, and the conduct bottom of the captain Leon N Blair major [1] is placed on duty on March 15, 1938.

After a stroke of a rowing crew in New England and the Caribbean Sea, as for Rei Sting, the Portsmouth navy shipyard received dockage, repair and equipment of a ship on January 14, 1939. I started on the cruise to the Caribbean sea area after work completion and passed Panama Canal after anchorage in Connecticut New London on April 20 and arrived at California San Diego on May 11. I join the sixth diving squadron in the ground and engage in training and fleet practice. It sails on April 1, 1940 and, toward the fleet practice in the Hawaiian sea area, receives overhaul afterwards at メア island navy shipyard of ヴァレーホ. When work is completed, I engage in return strategy activity again to Hawaii, and an Asian fleet (English version) increases it in Philippine カヴィテ on October 23, 1941. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack by the Japanese military of December 7, Rei Sting anchored in Manila under the conduct of the Raymond S ランブ major (Annapolis 1926 tuple).

It is first and it for second patrol from December, 1941 to February, 1942

On December 11, Rei Sting went to the western part of Luzon by the first patrol. I patrolled, and Rei Sting witnessed the invasion of the Japanese military, but was not able to strike the Gulf of リンガエン by lack such as the ammunition. On December 24, Rei Sting finishes a 13-day action; and is 帰投 in Manila. Manila had the fall close at hand these days, but Rei Sting had you do simple repair. The captain took place of Major Raymond J Moore (Annapolis 1927 tuple).

On December 30, Rei Sting went to Hainan Island and the Indochina area by the second patrol. On January 10, 1942, Rei Sting attacks and sinks the hospital ship はるぴん-maru (Nihonkai Steamship, 5,167 tons) in 17°40'N 109°20'E / 17.667 degrees N 109.333 degrees E / 17.667, Gulf of of 109.333. This was the first military gain in the war of Rei Sting. The はるぴん-maru was not really equipped with the Geneva Convention rule despite a hospital ship [explanatory note 1]; [explanatory note 2] [explanatory note 3]. I patrolled in Gulf of Davao (English version) until February 8, but there was not the contact with the enemy afterwards. On February 12, Rei Sting finished a 44-day action and did 帰投 in Surabaya of Java. Because the Japanese military continued pressuring the Netherlands military base, Rei Sting arrived for Freemantle immediately on navigation, March 3.

The third, the fourth patrol from March, 1942 to February, 1942

On March 16, Rei Sting went to the Java Sea and the Celebes Sea area by the third patrol. I hung the only valuable sign which I observed it by this patrol and attacked on 28th from March 27 and was the sky fog type destroyer which I discovered off Celebes Makassar or an autumn shower type destroyer [4]. Although I fired four torpedoes, all bullets came off Rei Sting [5]. On May 2, Rei Sting finished a 48-day action and did 帰投 to Freemantle.

On May 27, Rei Sting went to the Philippine area by the fourth patrol. After [7] that at first Rei Sting patrolled in Gulf of Davao [6] followed by patrolled in the サンベルナルジノ straits area, I turned a course to the Mariana Islands area. Rei Sting observed two ships accompanied by [8], an escort ship at 12°41'N 136°22'E / 12.683 degrees N 136.367 degrees E / 12.683, a point of 136.367 in an evening on June 28 and accessed a range promptly. I fire four torpedoes towards the first ship. The torpedo hit specially installed gunboat Nishikyo circle (Hinode Kisen, 1,291 tons) and attacked and sank this. I continued patrol afterwards around Guam. On July 15, Rei Sting finished a 50-day action and did 帰投 in Pearl Harbor. By remodeling carried out after this, as for Rei Sting, two outside torpedo tubes were put on at the position below the deck the warship ahead. I was able to in this way make the torpedo line of fire number of the bow direction idealized six [explanatory note 4].

I it for fifth, sixth, the seventh patrol from October, 1942 to May, 1943

October 26 [9], Rei Sting went to the Solomon Islands area by the fifth patrol. I patrolled in the Bougainville sea near the shore and discovered a transportation fleet or a war vessel. On the morning of November 21, Rei Sting let a torpedo hit specially installed aircraft carrier Sanyo circle (Osaka merchant ship, 8,360 tons) in the short land sea near the shore, and overthrew it [10]; [11]. On December 20, Rei Sting finishes a 55-day action; and in Pearl Harbor 帰投 [12]. The captain took place of Otis J are major (Annapolis 1930 tuple).

January 12, 1943 [13], Rei Sting went to Marshall Islands, the Truk Islands area by the sixth patrol. However, there was even this patrol at an opportunity of the contact, but, at the opportunity of the attack, there was not it. On March 8, Rei Sting finishes a 55-day action and wants to do 帰投 in Pearl Harbor [14].

April 2 [15], Rei Sting went to the East China Sea by the seventh patrol. By this patrol, the duty of the mining was given, too. For two days of April 21 and 22nd, Rei Sting lays an underwater mine off Wenzhou. On May 2, discovered the 257th fleet at 27°18'N 121°38'E / 27.300 degrees N 121.633 degrees E / 27.300, a point of 121.633, and attacked it, and the falling of a thunderbolt did a carrier becoming known to the public circle (Hachiuma Steamship, 8,256 tons) with surfacing, and attacked and sank it [16]; [17]. On May 17, Rei Sting finishes a 46-day action and wants to do 帰投 in Pearl Harbor [18].

I it for eighth, the ninth patrol from June, 1943 to October

On June 12, Rei Sting went to the Caroline Islands area by the eighth patrol. Most of this patrol did not have result, and it was the high-speed fleet which left for the north that observed alone. However, Rei Sting was not able to access the fleet. On July 31, Rei Sting finished a 50-day action and did 帰投 in Brisbane.

On August 23, Rei Sting went to the Admiralty Islands area by the ninth patrol. On August 31, Rei Sting is mistaken bombing of the allied army's plane at 05°24'S 154°07'E / 5.400 degrees S 154.117 degrees E / -5.400, a point [19] of 154.117; of four was bombed, and put on the quite a few damage, and it was forced to Rei Sting surfacing, and repairing it [20]. Through this patrol, there was not the contact with the hostile craft. On October 10, Rei Sting finishes a 50-day action; and is 帰投 in Pearl Harbor. I was performed a cruise for overhaul successively by the メア island navy shipyard. During overhaul, the captain took place of Major Sam C roux mistake youth (Annapolis 1935 tuple).

I it for the tenth patrol from March, 1944 to April

On March 10, 1944, Rei Sting went to the Mariana Islands area by the tenth patrol. On March 30, Rei Sting discovers a transportation fleet at 20°43'N 143°04'E / 20.717 degrees N 143.067 degrees E / 20.717, a point of 143.067. I let three escort ships go past and take the attack position for two cargo boats. Rei Sting fired four torpedoes for the stripe-maru to go to the specially installed transport (beach root steamship, 3,943 tons), and the island circle that one hit the central part and went stopped it. Rei Sting fired another four torpedoes for the stripe-maru to reach and attacked and sank this. On the afternoon of April 8, he is cruising in the Mariana Islands north, and Rei Sting collides to a big underwater object at depth of 52 feet. The hulls rose 4 feet from 3. Because there was Rei Sting in the marine middle, and the depth of the water with more than of 2,000 fathoms (3,700 meters) was shown by the chart, the roux mistake captain thought about this with the new antisubmarine weapon of the enemy at first. Rei Sting navigated it by the depth of the water that I was careful with, but was not able to discover the bottom of the sea afterwards. Rei Sting just continued patrol without concluding what collided with the hull. On the early morning of April 13, the duty watch of Rei Sting still discovered the trail of the torpedo while it was dark. Rei Sting changed the direction to the port rapidly, and the torpedo passed 100 feet of warship front. The second torpedo passed starboard two seconds later. Rei Sting searched for the hostile craft which I attacked, but was able to discover nothing. On April 22, Rei Sting finished a 54-day action and did 帰投 in Pearl Harbor.

I it for the eleventh patrol from May, 1944 to July

May 26 [21], Rei Sting went to the Mariana Islands area by the eleventh patrol. This patrol was spent by a help deployment duty and supported the plane military unit which struck Guam by the protection of the fight of Saipan. On June 11, Rei Sting saved the navy pilot who fell and saved another two people on the next day. I receive news that a pilot at navy landed on the water at distance of 500 yards from the coast of Guam on June 13. When Rei Sting rushed to the help, I sniped at the raft which the pilot at navy where the coast artillery of the Japanese military landed on the water of got on [22]. I dived under water and tried an approach while Rei Sting was both sides of the hull, and a cannonball exploded [22]. The roux Miss captain of Rei Sting raised each of the two periscopes, and one of them of those assumed a raft a substitute for cleat to moor [22]. The pilot did not readily notice the idea of the roux Miss captain, and Rei Sting approached it three times, but the result was the same [22]. The roux Miss captain raised a periscope before a pilot decisively and the pilot who finally understood the real intention was caught by a periscope and, in the case of the fourth approach, was pulled safely [22]. The pilot boarded it apart from an island after I became safe [22]. On June 18, a fire occurs with the superstructure nearly the headquarters hatch. Of the thing kindled as for several times of flame extinguished a fire, and a cause was discovered last. Rei Sting continued still patrolling. On July 10, Rei Sting finished a 45-day action and did 帰投 in Majuro. About the pilot help using the periscope off Guam, the roux Miss captain of Rei Sting recollects it as follows later.

We were relationship to ask if correct now, but got angry when that the third approach failed so that a chest was not relieved if it was for a person in charge of rest room cleaning and did not do that man either. It was thought that I did it nonchalantly at all without knowing the trouble of the person — Sam C roux mistake youth, C W Nimitz, E B Potter / Yuzuru Sanematsu, Kengo Tominaga (coreason) "Pacific Sea history of a war 382 pages of Nimitz"

I it for the twelfth patrol from August, 1944 to September

August 2 [23], Rei Sting went to the Philippine area by the twelfth patrol. I was given the detail which let 15 Philippine staff officer officials and soldiers, supply supplies of 6 tons strike the Luzon northeast shore by this patrol. I discover 70 tons grade trawler at 01°33'N 126°06'E / 1.550 degrees N 126.100 degrees E / 1.550, a point of 126.100 on August 11 and give a blow in 3 inches gun and 20 millimeters of machine guns [24]. On August 15, Rei Sting calls at a port of Darwin and sails the next day [25]. On August 27, Rei Sting arrived at the Cape the northernmost Myra Ylla of Luzon which was a determined meeting point [26] and unloaded a strength of an army and supplies [27]. Rei Sting surfaces, and, after a duty, he sends this away with 3 inches guns though he receives a depth bomb attack from coast cargo boat and a guardianship [28]. It was 11°40'N 129°51'E / 11.667 degrees N 129.850 degrees E / 11.667, a point of 129.850 on August 31 and saved four crews of light cruiser Natori attacked and sunk by hardhead (USS Hardhead, SS-365) [29]. On September 7, Rei Sting finished a 35-day action and did 帰投 in Darwin.

I it for thirteenth, 14th, 15th, 16th, the 17th patrol from September, 1944 to February, 1945

On September 10, Rei Sting went to the Molucca Sea area by the thirteenth patrol. On September 15, Rei Sting performed a detail and, in proximity to the mer Joe Island in the Molucca Sea, searched for the shore where it could strike. On September 19, Rei Sting finished a 9-day action and did 帰投 in port Darwin.

September 21 [30], Rei Sting went to the Philippine area by the 14th patrol. On September 27, Rei Sting unloaded 35 tons of freight at a meeting point in eastern Luzon and let subsequently three workers of the army strike it in the eastern part of サマール island on September 30 [31]. On October 14, Rei Sting finishes a 22-day action; and is 帰投 in Brisbane. The captain took place of Howard F ストーナー major (Annapolis 1932 tuple).

December 6 [32], Rei Sting went to the Philippine area by the 15th patrol. On January 1, 1945, Rei Sting unloaded freight of 27 tons in タウィタウィ [33]. On January 6, Rei Sting finishes a 27-day action, and Mio's wants to do 帰投 yes in the D island [34].

On January 11, Rei Sting went to the Celebes Sea area by the 16th patrol. I do 一旦帰投 in port Darwin on February 1 and sail by the 17th patrol [explanatory note 5] on February 3 two days later. I let a military unit strike perception Nghe An island (English version), the Gulf of Celebes Pare Pare once each with what let I took even this patrol as a detail on 8th from February 7, and two coast watchmen strike the セラカ island [33] as a start twice in [35], the Celebes ニパニパ peninsula. On February 23, Rei Sting finishes a 34-day action; and is 帰投 for Freemantle. This became the last patrol of Rei Sting.

Training ship, postwar

Rei Sting departed from Freemantle on March 16 and I passed Panama Canal to the east and returned to New London on April 29 [2]. I am active based in the ground, and I am performed a cruise on July 29 by Philadelphia naval shipyard and retire afterwards in the ground on October 17 [2]. It was removed from a register on July 3, 1946, and Rei Sting was sold to a housebreaker of Philadelphia as a scrap on January 6 in the next year.

Rei Sting was presented with 12 war stars in meritorious services in war of World War II. Rei Sting experienced patrol in most wartime of 17 times out of the American submarine.
