Summary
Hawking tries to explain a field for one minute of the cosmology including Big Bang, a black hole, a light cone toward the reader who is not an expert. His main purpose is to convey the general view of the field, but tries it in explaining certain complicated mathematics again. He comments that it was published in 1996 of his writing in the following version about time travel and a wormhole and researches possibility that space can exist without a quantum singular point in the opening at time. Early in 1983, Hawking met Simon Mitton who was the charge of the book about the astronomy for the first time in Cambridge university press and showed a design to write a book of the cosmology for public. ミットン put a doubt into for every equation to be written on the draft that it was too difficult. I thought that I persuaded the buyer in the bookstore of the airport which Hawking looked forward to by those equations out of the purchase and was accompanied by difficulty a little, but persuaded you that he left one equation for Hawking and removed all other equations. [4] Because the author received the advice of the purpose that a readership would be reduced to half whenever wrote one equation in the book by the address of gratitude of the book; an equation one in this book: I state that there is only E = mc2. Many complicated models, figures, cuts are used in this book to speak the details of the concept for the research.
Various version
- The following preface by Carl Sagan is placed in the version at the beginning of 1988. : There was Sagan in London for a scientific meeting in 1974 and entered another room aimlessly in the interval of the meeting. A meeting bigger than the meeting that Sagan left was held there. I noticed that "I saw the ceremony that continued from ancient times. It was the initiation ceremony of the new member of the Royal Society which was one of the existing interdisciplinary organizations for a long time on this planet. In the front row, the man dressed in the young wheelchair signed the book which a signature of Isaac Newton was put for most so slowly on the page of of the beginning by one's name. Steven Hawking was already already a legend. "Sagan adds Hawking to a preface successively when it is" good successor "of Newton and the Paul Day rack in accord with Lucas professorship. [5]
This preface was removed after a first edition. A copyright subsists in Sagan not Hawking and a publishing company, and this is because the publishing company did not have the right using it forever. Hawking wrote a preface by oneself in the later version.
- I enter, and the latest expansion is for an illustration for 1,996 years: It was for this hard cover, and an illustration and a photograph of the full color were used to explain the contents of the book more. In addition, the topic that was not included in the original was added.
- A version of the 10th anniversary for 1,998 years: It was the contents, but it was published as a paperback, and the figure was included only just a little that this was published in 1996. ISBN: 0553109537
- "I talk about Hawking, all of space" in 2005: This is a joint work with trendy (Leonard Muro day and is the simple version of the original. I was revised again to add the new topic that occurred because of further scientific development. ISBN: 03-80436-7 ) on
Movie
Errol Morris supervised documentary film A Brief History of Time of Hawking. The title is the same, but it is a biography of Hawking, and this movie is not a thing called the screen version of this book.
Opera
