A stone cavern hermitage (ソックラム) is a Buddhism remain in Republic of Korea Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongju City. It is in the foot of 吐含山. Originally I was called "a stone temple", but there is what I became able to call "a stone cavern hermitage" via "stone cavern" "趙家寺" Japan Era later.
On December 20, 1962, I was appointed in Republic of Korea national treasure 24th. In addition, with the French temple which left the stone cavern hermitage approximately approximately 4 kilometers in 1995, it was enrolled in a world heritage (cultural heritage) as "Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple".

When Oshiro (from 700 years to 774 years) who was view King Toku of Silla and the prime minister of the times of 恵恭王 Kim erected "Ishibotoke Corporation" for one's parents, it is written down in "the three countries ancient tradition" in the Korai times, and it is thought that Ishibotoke Corporation is a stone cavern hermitage because the position of the French temple is near. Erection was started for (view King Toku ten years) for 751 years and was completed for (恵恭王 ten years) for 774 years. The Korea times mainly on Confucianism lasted more than 500 years and were left unattended for a long time afterwards because the Buddhism was oppressed.
Repair by Japan
I was hit by a heavy rain suddenly and escaped into the cave of mountains when a mail carrier was going to go over the mountain pass of 吐含山 for delivery in 1909. I discovered a Buddha statue accidentally in the cave. In the stone cavern hermitage at the time, there might be the collapse just before collapse. A ceiling fell, and direct rain hit a Buddha statue, and the placement of neighboring Buddha statues was already unknown, too, and higher than overall half were buried among soil.
Over 1913 through 1915 of the rule era in Japan, large-scale restoration construction for 3 degrees was performed by Japan. A leak was found out after the first repair, and a result, ventilation using the cement became difficult by the later repair and cement was dissolved by the water which collected in a stone cavern and was eroded a statue of the granite, and a problem such as water solidifying to the stone which mechanism to gather groundwater under this Sonbutsu, and to drain it of water was lost, and was cooled with the groundwater produced it. In addition, some building stones become extra, and an original figure will be lost after disintegrating to display it in Keijo, and having moved because I took the wrong reconstruction.
Repair by Korea
I was left unattended again for the confusion period before and after the Korean War, but repair construction was carried out by leadership of the Korean cultural assets Administration Bureau from 1961 through 1963. I block up the rear with cement more to improve a problem of the humidity and it is fitted with glass and does the entire surface and dehumidified it artificially, but the damage of the granite with carbon dioxide exhausted by visitors will have it pointed out. In addition, the wooden front chamber built in 1961 is considered to be an element disturbing ventilation.
In addition, the placement of the Buddha statue performed original sorting in light of the sacred book of the Buddhism saying that Japan displayed it at random. However, after the repair, the photograph of the stone cavern hermitage at the time of the discovery and an illustration of detailed placement of the feasibility study were found, and it was found out that repair, the placement that Japan performed was right. However, the placement is not still restored.
The stone cavern entrance is covered with a glasswork and cannot enter the inside. Therefore the general person observes it over glass from a front chamber. Around a stone cavern, the building stones which a place to locate it lost are displayed by careless work after the resolution movement.
A principal idol is a Buddha sedentary image of 3.4m in height. Glass is buried in the sum of the Buddha sedentary image. When sunlight enters the stone cavern at the east by Rising Sun, the glass of the sum shines; is designed.
In the stone cavern, granite is made in combination artificially. The internal structure is divided into three of a front chamber, the door way, main room from the entrance. The front chamber is designed so that the man himself turns to the east direction. (a direction and the agreement that a day rises at winter solstice) a Buddha sedentary image (the iconographic Buddhist image of the principal idol assumes Buddha of 降魔成道 the origin, but there are many examples believed in as Amitabha in united Silla) which is a principal idol is installed in the back main room. A shape dome-shaped in the main room, a front chamber, the door way of the cuboid is. After having piled up granite, it is thought that soil was covered with. Ishibotoke such as a Bodhisattva image or the king Four Devas image digs it on the wall of the granite and are crowded. Two Deva kings image is carved on entrance both sides of the door way. In the case of the enlargement, the eight kinds of animals of the front chamber and the two Deva kings image were added.
The Buddha statue of the principal idol is recognized to be Buddha now, but Amitabha or Buddha is controversial in Korea. In addition, the man himself of the temple of Silla Era is often 毘盧遮那仏 or Amitabha.
The thing which Ishibotoke of the stone cavern hermitage was drawn on as a portrait of the 10,000 won bill was set up, but was called off that I benefited you in specific religion.
