A physicist (ぶつりがくしゃ) is a researcher engaged in physics.
Summary
When I am engaged in the border domain with other study domains, there is not the clear definition that how you cause. There is the name of astronomer, astrophysicist, physicist and three ways if I take a scholar studying space and the heavenly bodies as an example. Generally, "the astronomer" is employed for the researcher who majored in astronomy and astrophysics at a university, and "the astrophysicist" is often used for the researcher who majored in astrophysics or general physics (point to the physics except astronomy, the astrophysics here). In addition, I am used for the researcher who majored in general physics when "a physicist" refers in astronomy and astrophysical researchers.
In the Middle Ages, the physicist served as a chemist, a mathematician, an alchemist, a philosopher, but specialization of the study advances remarkably after it was the 20th century, and the person who the physicist learns physics, and acquired the degrees such as doctorates becomes mainstream.
