Octette (Stravinsky)

The indoor musical piece that Igor Stravinsky composed the octette (はちじゅうそうきょく, Octet) from 1922 through 1923. Stravinsky of the neoclassicism era tended to put too much importance to a wind instrument, but this work was written for eight wind instruments, too. It is said that the specific formation comes from that Stravinsky heard a performance by this formation in a dream. I was not able to remember the contents of the music, but I remember the musical instrument of eight players and tell that I started composition by the same formation at once in the morning when I woke up.

Stravinsky commanded the premiere by Koussevitzky concert held in Paris opera house on October 18, 1923 and was performed. It was published in 1924 by the Russian music publishing company, and a revised edition (I change a part of the second movement tempo) was published in のち 1952 by Boosey & Hawkes Corporation.

Formation

Flute, clarinet (B ♭ pipe, I shift it to A pipe at the finale), bassoon 2, trumpet 2 (C pipe 1, A pipe 1), trombone 2 (tenor 1, bus 1)

Constitution

I consist of three movements. Performance time is 16 minutes by the designation of the record of a game of go.

  • The first movement sinfonia Lent - allegro in moderate time strange E major. Sonata form
  • The second movement subject and variation andantino
  • The third movement finale tempo ジュスト. Rondo form
