The multipurpose space exploration ship that Nautilus-X (Non-Atmospheric Universal Transport Intended for Lengthy United States eXploration, atmosphere outside space transportation means for long-term space exploration in America) was envisioned by Technology Applications Assessment Team of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). I comprise an artificial gravity division by the centrifugal force that the spaceship assumes a trip to outer space of long-term (1-24 months) by six crews and is designed, and to control influence on human body in the microgravity environment.
As for 3,700 million dollars, the period, the cost of the project is estimated with 64 months, and it is thought that is relatively cheaper than normal space system, and spaceship in itself is feasible [3]; [4].

Purpose
A purpose of Nautilus-X is to become the staging base of the long-term mission to moon or Mars. The spaceship is located in the moon or the Martian Lagrangian point (L1 or L3) to facilitate the flight schedule of the mission.
In addition, provide a base and the hospital for emergency to the crew of the mission [2]; [4].
In addition, it is said that I have the following ability.
- It supports the long-term mission of six people
- I can perform activity without (1-24 months), supply under a mission
- I support the manned space flight (descent / return) to the heavenly bodies
- The deployment of the scientific payload
- I manage it only in outer space (the ability for re-entry into the earth's atmosphere does not last)
- The multipurpose manned spacecraft and cooperation that NASA Authorization Act of 2010 () requires
Detailed
Design
The spaceship is constructed mainly on 6.5m in width, the main corridor of 14m in length. The spaceship becomes the module structure and can be equipped with the docking port of promotion module, manipulator arm, Orion and the space X dragon and a lander to go down at the destination depending on the contents of each mission. I can exchange fuel for an engine every mission theoretically [5]. In addition, I have an industrial airlock unit for construction / maintenance and a deck for conduct, observation.
I put an artificial gravity division using centrifugal force called セントリフュージ on the other side of the docking port across the ring-formed flywheel. A tank of water and hydrogen and a storage unit are located to the rear, and these reduce the radiation for the crew of セントリフュージ, and provide a safe zone [3]; [4]. Communication, a promotion system is equipped with in the rear of the spaceship.
Nautilus-X of the standard constitution has only three storage units. It is equipped with more storage units by the constitution for the long-term exploration.
Technical
The deployment is relatively easy for this huge spaceship to be comprised of a hard expansion-type module of the having many kinds and solar battery array. I can use the thing which Bigelow aerospace suggests it to as an inflatable township for a technique to cause the inflatable module [5].
It is nominated for other innovative points that it is equipped with farmery of the water culture and the hangar of the lander.
Characteristic
- Stubborn environmental control life support system and communication are sweet
- Big storage size (food, a machine part, a pharmaceutical article can use it)
- Ability for real-time conduct, observation of the crew
- Low radiation dose to a crew
- Semiautonomous unification of the promotion unit for plural missions
Present status
ISS セントリフュージデモンストレーション
A test that I install a proof machine in the International Space Station (ISS) is thought about to evaluate the thing such as influence on human body by セントリフュージ and the mechanical reaction. I use the inflatable structure of the Ho Berman sphere () with this proof machine.
This セントリフュージ becomes the first experiment in the outer space with the device of enough size to bring about artificial gravity if it comes true [2]. I can launch the proof machine in one delta IV or atlas V, and the total cost of the experiment is estimated with lower than from 83 million dollars for 39 months during 143 million dollars, the period [3].
More study is in a necessary state, but, about the size of the proof machine, a discussion is performed with two of 9.1m (30 ft.) and 12.2m (40 ft.). The following tables are artificial gravity depending on size of セントリフュージ and rotary speed.
RPM | 9.1m (30 ft.) | 12.2m (40 ft.) |
---|---|---|
4 | 0.08 | 0.11 |
5 | 0.13 | 0.17 |
6 | 0.18 | 0.25 |
7 | 0.25 | 0.33 |
8 | 0.33 | 0.44 |
9 | 0.41 | 0.55 |
10 | 0.51 | 0.69 |
A kick motor (the thing which was similar that Hughes 376 communications satellite used it for spin stabilization) is used for a start and the maintenance of the turn of セントリフュージ. セントリフュージ functions as a sleep module for ISS crews [2].
