Mount Wanakura (わなくらやま) is one of the mountains of depths Chichibu in the climax of 2,036m above sea level in Chichibu-shi, Saitama. Alias Mt. Hakuseki (it is white and stops). It is on the topographical map of Geographical Survey Institute with Mt. Hakuseki [1], but Mount Wanakura is the name of the Chichibu side from old times. I am chosen in 200 famous mountains in Japan [2].

Summary

The huge mountain body which chopped a valley in every direction is discriminative. The beauty of the virgin forest was praised as a secret peak of depths Chichibu, but the dilapidation of the mountain area advanced in deforestion and the forest fire of the 1950-60 generation once after a right of the forest moved to Otaki-mura (a part of existing Chichibu-shi) in prewar days. In the virgin forest of the Japanese hemlock ever proud of a beautiful forest, all is almost lost by frith of Otaki-mura and a fire with the felling business, and most of the ridge lines are covered in the planting of the ordinary Japanese larch and a dense thicket of the Pseudosasa purpurascens. In the neighborhood of prefectural border that was barely saved from felling, the stock of the rhododendron is seen.

A mountain trail (route) did not become clear, and, in the rough road where there were many dark forest zones, a tent was ready to stay days in mountains and had readiness and physical strength to endure to row a thicket and, about mountain climbing, had been ever seen with "the secret peak" which was dangerous other than the person who had the technique that a course was decided with a map and a magnet, but the development of the mountain trail gradually advanced recently. It is not necessary in a tent night as far as I take the general route either and is not a particularly difficult mountain now.

Mountain climbing

The general route possesses it from the Yamanashi side and is coming and going from the Shogen Pass. It quite takes 8-9 hours by mountaintop coming and going from Shogen hut.

From the Saitama side, two shallows ridges from the Lake Chichibu, lunch ridge from Kawamata, Senba ridge from 雲取林道 and Nita hut ridge route exist. However, it is a rough road maintained positively neither as a general mountain trail and should not step other than a mountain climbing experienced person easily. The fatal accident of the mountains accident happens for a past, too, and the action by the self-responsibility is demanded.

However, mountaineers taking the route of the Saitama side increase recently. A footprint became considerably clear by two Seo root routes, and a bamboo thicket was swamped in a part, and red tape and the signpost came to be established, too. From the large sinus Bridge which is the terminal that the lower part of the Nita hut route, a general car of 雲取林道 score to the head (1,555m) of the Nita hut, a work way is maintained by the meeting [3] of the making of forest for NPO, 100 years of Saitama and is in a condition to be able to pass even a public mountaineer. However, it is covered by a bamboo thicket, and, to the mountaintop, the indistinct part has a footprint. Even if I take which route, I need experience of the route finding, and a topographical map or GPS are indispensable.

  • Shogen hut
  • Nita hut (it is for forest management of the NPO, and the general mountaineer is not available)
