Meeting of the detective hobby

A meeting (たんていしゅみのかい) of the detective hobby is the friendship group of detective story fans established (1925) in April in 1925 and a detective writer group. I published bulletin "detective hobby" (for from September, 1925 to September, 1928 all 34 輯).

Ryu Hoshino wild boar (nom de plume, Kasugano green) [explanatory note 1] which was the deputy director of department of Osaka Mainichi Shimbun society suggested organization to Ranpo Edogawa resident in Osaka (1925) at the time of about April in 1925, and I called Kanbe Seishi Yokomizo, Masaji Nishida and others resident, and I was formed from Hoshino by a person concerned with Osaka Mainichi Shimbun, random walk [1]. In addition, Risaburo Yamashita of Kyoto, Fuboku Kozakai, Osei Honda of Nagoya, Saburo Koga and others of Tokyo participate [2]. The random walk assumed it "character [3] almost same as the present detective writer club" in "detective story 40 years", but the member was an open group of doors for a newspaper, a journalist and a fan widely without being limited to a writer and a translator [4].

In the rules of a society, the following things were advocated as "business".

  1. A crime and a study and it announcement about the detective
  2. The creation of the detective story and translation and review
  3. A detective hobby lecture is held
  4. Appreciation of the moving picture of the detective
  5. A crime and visit of various facilities about the detective
  6. I introduce the work of the member to each magazine

The fee was 50 sen per January [6].

On April 11, 1925, I hold the regular meeting of the meeting of the first hobby very much in a lecture hall. The meeting of a lecture and the movie was held once a month afterward [7]. I hold "the detective pageant" by the Junko Watase company in Rokko joys and sorrows garden on October 25, the same year [8].

Bulletin "detective hobby"

In the beginning of establishment, a bulletin was placed in the weekly paper "sundae news" of the tabloid which a friend of Kasugano published [5]. A bulletin "detective hobby" was launched afterwards in September, 1925. Publication was sundae news company of Osaka formerly [9]. A spring sunshine temple of Tokyo undertakes publication at the risk of losing money, and come to be sold at the general bookstore by fourth 輯 (January, 1926 issue) [10]; [11].

Foundation of a periodical was original, and the editing was a durability rotation system of the coterie. The charge of 各号 is as follows [12].

Abolished an editing turn system from the twelfth 輯 (October, 1926 issue), and declared the joint editing by three of Fuboku Kozakai, Saburo Koga, Ranpo Edogawa, but it was Jun Mizutani that was really in charge of editing [13]; [14] [11]. According to the random walk, the circulation was up to around 5000-6000 copies [10].

The random walk raises its following members as a coterie at the time of November (1926) in 1926 during "detective story 40 years" [10].

As other publishings, I plan "a detective hobby library" in 1926 and publish Kasugano green "key to secret" (sundae news company, 1926) [11]. In addition, publish anthology "creation detective story selection" (-1928 age version for 1,925 years for, all 4 輯) according to the year from a spring sunshine temple until (1929) for 1926 through 1929 [15]; [11].

However, a detective story became the boom, and the contributions to "the detective hobby" that was coterie rather decreased because announcement mediums increased. The chief editor change to Asakawa boating song and a transfer to Heibonsha Publishers Ltd. were announced (1928) in September in 1928, but this was not realized and was just discontinued [16].

The random walk publishes the "complete works of Ranpo Edogawa" small magazine "detective hobby" that diverted title of "the detective hobby" as the supplement to a magazine on the occasion of publication (for from 1931 to 1932 all 13) for Heibonsha Publishers Ltd. later [17].

Activity and coterie "bizarre-hunting" of the Kansai member

When the publication of "the detective hobby" moves to Tokyo from 1926, and Ranpo Edogawa goes to Tokyo again in the same year, the Kasugano green, Risaburo Yamashita, Osei Honda and others who stayed in Kansai begin original activity [18]. At first the Kasugano and others assumed "movie and detective" (a movie and detective company, December, 1925 foundation of a periodical) "the meeting recommendation magazine of the detective hobby". When this is discontinued in about a half year, I publish "detective, movie" (joint publishing company) which declared "the meeting cutting of the detective Kyoto hobby" in October, 1926. After this was over in a short life, in May, 1928, I launched coterie "bizarre-hunting" (Mystery Hunters, bizarre-hunting company) [explanatory note 2]. The magazine is known in the anonymity column which presented criticism doing not mince words for the detective literary world at the time, and publication to May issue is confirmed (1932) in 1932 [19].

  1. It is another person with translator Tatsuo Hoshino of ^ Maurice Leblanc. In addition, the person of 保篠 participates in the meeting of the detective hobby, too.
  2. It is unrelated with the cheap magazine of the title published in ^ postwar period. In addition, "the bizarre-hunting" abbreviated "猟奇耽異" where translated curiosity hunting into by a coined word of Haruo Sato; a meaning (mystery literary museum 2001, p. 8, the Yuzuru Yamamae "a dry brief comment "bizarre-hunting" that caused a topic) such as "the interest in strange thing." A meaning is different from the use such as current "bizarre-hunting murder".
