Nozawa mine (のざわこうざん) is an asbestos mine in Yamabe, Furano-shi, Hokkaido. I say NOZAWA mine, Nozawa asbestos mine, the NOZAWA Furano mine.

There are workings on the slope of the mountains of east bank across the Sorachi River from the Yamabe, Furano-shi district and is next to the Tokyo University practice forest. There are ore dressing ground and an office, a factory in the level ground of the Sorachi Kawanishi bank which is next to southwest, Yamabeshigaichi from a working. An aerial ropeway was installed from a working of the halfway up a mountain (I remove it in 終掘後), and an ore was carried to the ore dressing ground. Goaf (debris) after the asbestos collection is deposited near the ore dressing ground and presents the aspect of the hill. In addition, there is Yamabe asbestos mine in the immediate south side of the working.

The main mineral mined it by open-air mining with chrysotile (Shiroishi cotton) produced from all over the serpentine. After having been dried, I crushed it, and drew the serpentine which I mined in the bug filter and I separated every grade (I refer to a clause of asbestos) and gathered asbestos from serpentine in a vacuum state. Purified asbestos was used as materials such as slate or the Eternit pipe (asbestos-cement pipe).

History

An asbestos deposit was discovered accidentally in 1939 by an officer and started the operation with the Yamabe asbestos mine which was adjacent in 1942, Nunobeishiwata mine. A scale was the biggest in the asbestos mine of Japan (the inland), and 500 people engaged in work such as digging, the ore dressing as a little existence during World War II that underground resources were tight. The Yamabe district became the castle town of the asbestos mine by having had a large quantity of employees with Yamabe, Nunobe. I in wartime mainly produced asbestos of grade five classes used for textiles use.

Because the cost such as shipping charges was lower than a foreign product, I reduced a scale after the war and continued mining it. I changed after the war in a thing and a tailing (後掲) of grade 7 and the low grade such as the class outside article that an object of the main digging was used for building materials and mixture materials. However, I am pushed to drying up and import of resources asbestos and finish digging in 1969. Although I withdraw from digging virtually, the mine itself becomes the form that I continue operating legally (from gathering slag, and processing it).

Present situation

After digging cancellation of 69, I collected asbestos of the poor quality with less than it of grade 7 from slag (goaf) of the serpentine to deposit in large quantities in a site and reduced it only for the business that produced mortar mixture materials using spotted-snake pattern rock flour containing asbestos called the tailing. Collected asbestos was offered to blend Wazai International, resin and ceramics of asphalt and mortar, an additive to adhesive. I was able to continue such asbestos collection until 2002.

A scum stays in large quantities and detoxifies these by burning and chemical modification, and a study to develop the new material which can become the substitute of asbestos is performed now. In addition, I process the serpentine which is a basis of asbestos, and the production sale of the manure is carried out, too.

In the working ruins, serpentine becomes bare for many years, and it was the barren land where the trees and plants do not grow, but tree planting construction is pushed forward for prevention of scattering of asbestos. In addition, tree planting construction is given because the slag performed open air storage of prevents scattering of asbestos.
