William Ramsey Clark (English: on William Ramsey Clark, December 8, 1927 -) is a lawyer, a politician of the United States of America. I acted as the 66th Attorney General with President Lyndon Johnson. The defense of a campaigner of left line and the controversial person is known after the retirement by serving. It is a son of the origin of Tom Clark Attorney General, former United States Supreme Court judge (I appoint all Truman).

Brief career history

TexasDallasBirth. I engaged in the American Marine Corps from 1945 through 1946 and mastered an MA and a Bachelor of Law in University of Chicago in the University of Texas in Bachelor of Arts, 1950 in 1949. I enrolled in the Texas bar association in the same year and engaged in business such as the legal procedure in the United States Supreme Court in 1956.

I worked as an aide of the Land Bureau of the Attorney General from 1961 through 1965 in the Department of Justice and took office as the vice-Attorney General from 1965. In May, 1967, President Johnson nominated Clark for an aide. Because one of the reasons wanted to nominate black サーグット Marshal for a successor to father Tom Clark who was Supreme Court judge, this is because Johnson expected that Tom Clark retires from it by appointing Ramsey Clark the Attorney General. It would be ambition of Johnson to leave the name by appointing the black that it was the first among the United States Supreme Court in history. Tom Clark resigned Supreme Court judge as expected in 67.

Clark acted as the Attorney General until 1969 when the Johnson Administration was over.

Clark played role that civil rights exercise of the United States was important to in history. For example:

  • I performed regular personal life protection to follow Deep South Ole Miss first black student James Meredith.
  • I watched it whether the desegregation of the southern school was thorough under the court injunction.
  • Protection of marches from Selma to Montgomery
  • I led a special task force of the President direct control that received Watts riot.
  • I played a central role in development of the Civil Rights Act and an establishment in Voting Rights Act and 1968 in 1965.

At the time of the Vietnam War, I was concerned with a "Boston five" case prosecuted on the charge of "a conspiracy preparations punishment and draft interference assistance" (as for four people of them, guilty).

I act as the chairpersons of association of human rights free to do United States (ACLU) of the whole country after the retirement. In addition, I participate in an antiwar movement in Vietnam while I work as a lawyer and visit Hanoi in 1972. I made the candidacy (the Democratic Party), but was defeated by a member of the Upper House from New York in 1974.

The activity of recent Clark causes a discussion from the radicalness. I acted as the advisor of the marijuana reform whole country committee from the late 1970s through the 1980s. Clark proceeded to Iraq to defend Saddam Hussein in Iraqi special tribunal and, in December, 2004, acted as the advisor of the defense team.

I preside over "international action center" now.
