Warship career
ギターロ starts work by マニトワック shipbuilding of Wisconsin マニトワック on April 7, 1943. I am launched by loss T Mrs. McIntire (wife of surgery, the pharmaceutical chief of the bureau) on September 26 and am placed on duty on conduct lower January 26, 1944 of the captain Enrique D Haskin's major (Annapolis 1933 tuple). ギターロ leaves マニトワック on February 13 and it can enter the floating dock and is towed to New Orleans by tugboat Minnesota and arrives on February 22. I prepare for the voyage in the ground. After leaving New Orleans on March 1, and having been active for the balboa of Panama Canal Zone for several weeks, it sailed for Pearl Harbor on April 2 and prepared for arrival, the patrol on April 17.
The first patrol from May, 1944 to June
On May 7, ギターロ faced the Taiwanese sea near the shore by the first patrol. ギターロ discovers the transportation fleet where I arranged "照月型駆逐艦" and two small escort ships for in 24°32'N 123°24'E / 24.533 degrees N 123.400 degrees E the Yonagunijima sea near the shore of 123.400 in an evening on May 30 [5]. I fired three torpedoes and, as for the torpedo, two of them hit carrier Sichuan circle (Eastern Asia marine transportation, 2,201 tons) and attacked and sank this [6]. After having evaded the counterattack of the escort ship, ギターロ faced the south with submarine, ピクーダ (USS Picuda, SS-382), Pete (USS Peto, SS-265) of wolf pack "fen Nozu feh let's Fenno's Ferrets" which Frank W フェンノ lieutenant colonel (Annapolis 1925 tuple) commanded, three ships of the perch (USS Perch, SS-313) [7]. Joined, and, in the interval, ギターロ discovered ヒ 65 fleet at 22°42'N 121°24'E / 22.700 degrees N 121.400 degrees E lighting a fire island northwest 15 kilos point of 121.400 on the few early morning of June 2, and fired six torpedoes for a tanker, but got into the thunder trace right after coastal defense ship Awaji that discovered the torpedo reported "torpedo discovery" to fleet flagship light cruiser Kashii, and Awaji where a torpedo hit sank instantly [8]; [9] [10]. In addition, among the torpedoes which came off, one of them wants to hit carrier Arima Yamamaru (Mitsui ship, 8,697 tons) [10]; [11]. ギターロ [12] which I judged to be "10,000 tons grade tanker sinking" dived under water to evade the depth bomb attack of the water war vessel and an air strike, but Arima Yamamaru and the army special purpose ship land of gods circle that did cover thunder woke up a collision, and the fleet side became incoherent and was more than a counterattack [13]. ギターロ contacted it again before noon and confirmed the figures such as carrier sea hawks, but the patrol of the plane was over only by confirmation strictly [14]. Night began and discovered a figure of "峯風型駆逐艦" in the stern direction at 22°33'N 121°15'E / 22.550 degrees N 121.250 degrees E a point of 121.250 and I fired two torpedoes and confirmed a hit of the one and was judged with sinking of "峯風型駆逐艦" [15]. On June 19, ギターロ arrives at Darwin and I fill up with gas it and depart two days later [16]. On June 27, ギターロ finished a 51-day action and did 帰投 to Freemantle.
The second patrol from July, 1944 to September
On July 21, ギターロ faced the South China Sea by the second patrol. On the night of August 7, ギターロ discovered a discrete sweep corps in the ミ 13 fleet at 14°50'N 119°58'E / 14.833 degrees N 119.967 degrees E a point of Bataan peninsula offing 30 nautical miles of 119.967 [17]; [18]. I fired three torpedoes six of them in total for "an autumn shower type destroyer" and "a snowstorm type destroyer" and confirmed three hits to "a snowstorm type destroyer" [19]. They attacked and sank the coastal defense ship grass hedge which they were cautious of the fleet rear by this attack and navigated [18], but [20], the fleet body went into the Gulf of Manila during this period. After having sunk 700 tons grade patrol by bombardment at 15°16'N 119°57'E / 15.267 degrees N 119.950 degrees E the Luzon coast of 119.950, on August 8, the following day, ギターロ left for the Cape Luzon ボリナオ which was an encounter point with Layton (USS Raton, SS-270) [21]. After junction, I discover マタ 26 fleet navigating 16°17'N 119°46'E / 16.283 degrees N 119.767 degrees E a point of 119.767 on August 10 and I fire four torpedoes and report the overthrowing of "a Katori type cruiser" and the 4,000 tons grade carrier [22]. By this attack, a torpedo hit tanker 進栄丸 (Nitto steamship, 5,135 tons) and sank [23]. After having dived under water to avoid a depth bomb attack, ギターロ fired four torpedoes for "a snowstorm type destroyer" in the early afternoon, and two of them hit it, and it was judged to have sunk the aim [24]. There was not the serious damage of the thing which suffered considerable damage to an integumentary covering by a depth bomb attack, and, after surfacing, ギターロ faced the カラビテ cape sea near the shore with Layton [25]. On the morning of August 21, ギターロ heard the sound that a depth bomb smashed into in a distant place [26]. I showed that I attacked the ミ 12 fleet where a lei (USS Ray, SS-271) set sail for from the Gulf of Mindoro island pal Ann and discovered the ミ 12 fleet main body soon [27]. Chose ギターロ with the goal of two tankers at 13°21'N 120°18'E / 13.350 degrees N 120.300 degrees E a point of 120.300, but although lost the opportunity of the attack, changed an aim immediately, and fired four torpedoes, and hit it, and two hit carrier Uga circle (Matsuoka Steamship, 4,433 tons), and the hull was broken to three, and the Uga circle sank instantly [28]; [29]. An intense depth bomb attack happened, but ギターロ slipped in a depth bomb attack as if I scratched the back and left the battlefield. On the afternoon of August 27, ギターロ discovered three minitankers at 12°47'N 120°06'E / 12.783 degrees N 120.100 degrees E the Mindoro straits of 120.100 and at first I fired two torpedoes, but decided to clear it up by surfacing gun round without hitting it [30]. After a surfacing gun war, attacked and sank the tanker 27th southing-maru (southern oil tanker, 834 tons), and damaged third southing-maru (southern oil tanker, 834 tons) and the 25th southing-maru (southern oil tanker, 834 tons) [31]; [32]. On September 8, ギターロ finished a 48-day action and did 帰投 to Freemantle.
The third patrol from October, 1944 to November
On October 8, ギターロ faced the South China Sea by the third patrol with Bream (USS Bream, SS-243). From the middle of the night of October 23 through the early morning of 24th, ギターロ detected a second attack by a mobile unit corps to lead Takeo Kurita lieutenant general passing the Mindoro straits for the Leyte offing at 12°58'N 119°23'E / 12.967 degrees N 119.383 degrees E a point of 119.383, and continued sending the information that was important to the headquarters with an angler (USS Angler, SS-240) which detected for the same period [33]; [34]. These information was made use of effectively and contributed to victory of U.S. Navy by the Leyte offing sea fight [33]. On October 30, ギターロ joined Bream, Layton (USS Raton, SS-270) and discovered MoMA 05 fleet at the sambaless state coast in the afternoon [35]. Three ships attacked MoMA 05 fleet on the next morning, and ギターロ fired four torpedoes eight of them in total, and the torpedo hit two carriers, ぱしふいっく circle (Tamai Shosen, 5,872 tons) and Hiroaki circle (Hiroumi Kisen, 2,857 tons), and attacked and sank these [36]; [37].
On November 4, I discovered a Tama 31A fleet off 15°55'N 119°44'E / 15.917 degrees N 119.733 degrees E Luzon coast ダソル () gulf of 119.733. The fleet was comprised of 特設運送船香久丸 (Osaka merchant ship, 6,806 tons) and second-class transportation warship four. The wolf pack did not take notice of a second-class transportation warship and I attacked 香久丸 and put it up. At first Layton fired six torpedoes for 香久丸, but was evaded [38]. ギターロ came close following Layton and let I fired four torpedoes, and one of them hit 香久丸 [39]. Bream fires four torpedoes for the third person, and one of them hits it, and an inferno produces 香久丸, and cannot navigate it [40]; [41]. I fired two torpedoes for 香久丸 which Ray (USS Ray, SS-271) who accessed the Tama 31A fleet could not navigate and all two of them let you hit it and attacked and sank 香久丸 afterwards [42]. Because it was clear that Layton took off the torpedo of the thing which detected a Tama 31A fleet first, the military gains of 香久丸撃沈 were done for the third prize by ギターロ, Bream and Ray [43].
On November 6, ギターロ, Bream, lei and Layton discover 重巡洋艦熊野, the マタ 31 fleet including two of green leaves [44]. ギターロ fires a torpedo ten of them in total from the discharge pipe of a bow and the stern at 15°55'N 119°44'E / 15.917 degrees N 119.733 degrees E a point of 119.733 and determines that I let three of them hit "愛宕型重巡洋艦" [45]. Bream fires four torpedoes successively at 16°01'N 119°43'E / 16.017 degrees N 119.717 degrees E a point of 119.717, and it is judged "14,000 tons of 級重巡洋艦" to have let you hit it two of them [46]. Bream attacked Layton and Ray and attacked it almost simultaneously approximately one hour later and reported it when I let Layton fired six torpedoes, and it was two, or three hit Kumano [47], and the lei fired four torpedoes, too and reported it when I let two hit Kumano [48]. Night began, and Ray reported it saying "the best type cruiser that performed cover thunder would escape into the Gulf of ダソル" [49]. Just after an attack, ギターロ caught the depth bomb attack from a submarine chaser and I suffered damage destroyed by a radar, but was able to continue patrolling somehow without receiving the fatal damage [50]. On November 16, ギターロ finishes a 38-day action; and is 帰投 for Freemantle. The captain took place of Major Thomas B Dabney (Annapolis 1936 tuple).
I it for fourth, the fifth patrol from December, 1944 to May, 1945
On December 11, ギターロ faced the South China Sea by the fourth patrol. I arrived at the trace patrol sea area that passed Lombok Strait on December 17 [51]. I discover one "battleship", fleet including "重巡洋艦" one in the distant place at 11°50'N 109°30'E / 11.833 degrees N 109.500 degrees E a point of 109.500 on December 28 [52], but Mio's comes back to the D island for repair yes once on January 17, 1945 [53]. Mio's makes a sortie against D yes in an island on January 30 and, after repair, reopens patrol [54]. I fired three torpedoes right after ギターロ discovered a transportation fleet off 15°12'N 108°54'E / 15.200 degrees N 108.900 degrees E バタンガン cape of 108.900 on February 17, and a date changed on February 18 and I heard the hit sound and reported sinking of one large size carrier [55]. On March 15, ギターロ finished 83-day patrol and did 帰投 to Freemantle.
On April 9, ギターロ faced the South China Sea by the fifth patrol. On April 15, ギターロ was passing Lombok Strait and received the attack of a monitoring boat and the plane, but came through it [56]. ギターロ which arrived at the bell stomach island sea near the shore equal to the south entrance of the linga anchorage that was a base of the Japanese Navy on April 20 laid 23 underwater mines around 01°00'S 104°30'E / 1.000 degrees S 104.500 degrees E a point of 104.500 [57]. I patrolled between Borneo Island and Singapore, but there was hardly the vessels which was valuable in this time, these outskirts without a particular event afterwards at an attack opportunity without remaining [58]. ギターロ caught the return order to the own country and called at a port of Saipan on May 27 on the way [59]. On June 8, ギターロ finished a 61-day action and did 帰投 in Pearl Harbor. It was made a cruise in San Francisco and I arrived on June 18 and reached the end of the war afterwards in the ground.
I it in postwar period, the Turkish navy
ギターロ becomes the reserve duty warship on December 6 and will be kept at メア island navy shipyard. I am placed on duty again on February 6 for the next 1,952 years and I train you along the shore until September 10, 1953 and, after overhaul in San Diego, practice it. It became the reserve duty again on September 22, 1953, and Fried snorkel repair was carried out at メア island navy shipyard. I am placed on duty again on May 15, 1954 and will train a Turkish naval sailor to lend it to the lower Turkey Navy of the mutual defense help plan. ギターロ retired on August 7, 1954 and I was lent to the Turkish navy on the same day and got a duty in a name of a warship of プレヴェゼ (TCG Preveze). The original warship number was S 22, but was changed to S 340 in 1965. ギターロ was sold to Turkey formally on January 1, 1972 and was discarded as a scrap successively.
ギターロ was presented with a navy distinguished services corps chapter of four war stars and one in meritorious services in war of World War II. The patrol of the first, the second, the third and the fifth of ギターロ was recorded as success.
