A cushion to use 座蒲 (or 坐蒲, ざふ) in the case of posture of contemplation. There are two kinds of a circle-formed thing used in a Soto sect and the rectangle-formed thing to use in Rinzai sect.

When a cushion for this posture of contemplation was introduced for the first time by China, the etymology of 座蒲 really depends on having been made of the ears of the reed mace. As for the contents, there are cotton, kapok, buckwheat chaff, a ceiba, the decoration from a velvet or cotton without one of Japan having one of China with the ear of the reed mace in the present of the early 21st century.
