The Social Democratic Party Japan divided in right and left with the Socialist Party reunification (しゃかいとうさいとういつ) having done reunification by a party convention (1955) on October 13 in 1955. The system was concluded by this and conservative merger carried out later in 55.

Summary

The Socialist Party was divided to the Socialist Party right wing of peace treaty supporters and the Socialist Party left of the peace treaty opposition over the San Francisco Peace Treaty in (1951) in 1951. A seat in the election failed to rise afterwards the Socialist Party right wing who there was intra-party opposition, and was not able to accuse a clear claim at "a rearmament problem" while the Socialist Party left who advocated "protection of the Constitution and anti-security treaty", and promoted an opposition movement for a base offer (gradually expand the base) and the rearmament to the United States Armed Forces stretched out a seat every election to be opposed to "a reverse course" and the revision of the Constitution by the conservative government. In the Socialist Party of the Socialist Party left became dominant, and when the Socialist Party could be in charge of the government if unified it again, the interest of both groups agreed with Socialist Party right wing, and, by the political situation that the conservative parties were not unified, it was Socialist Party reunification. The Socialist Party became the major party having 158 seats by reunification in the House of Representatives.
