I leave San Diego on January 17, 1923 and start an action, but it becomes the spare warship soon and, after the completion, is placed on duty again on April 1, 1930. I acted for the Alaska inspection trip of the Upper House member in addition to the practice in the California area after re-placement on duty in the summer. During coming nearly ten years, the schedule of Perry was filled with fleet practice in the east Pacific, the west Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea and the joint drills by three persons of the army, the navy, the Coast Guard.
On April 2, 1940, Perry guarded battleship Arizona (USS Arizona, BB-39) and departed from San Diego and left for Pearl Harbor which was the new home port of the United States Pacific Fleet. I got a patrol duty at Hawaiian area of the sea during five months after arriving at Pearl Harbor and entered the naval shipyard of Pearl Harbor to enter in October, and to receive the remodeling construction to a minesweeping destroyer. I was reclassified on November 19, 1940 by DMS-17 and joined the second underwater mine group in January, 1941. Spring began and I guarded Arizona again on July 1 and, toward San Diego, went to Pearl Harbor.
On December 7, 1941 at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, Perry was anchoring in Pearl Harbor. Perry shot down one Japanese plane and after the storm of the attack stopped, I appeared in the heads of a bay and performed patrol and a minesweeping duty. This duty is continued until May 31, 1942 and goes to California after a duty and receives maintenance at メア island navy shipyard. I left the メア island after maintenance on July 31 and performed a fleet guards duty to Pearl Harbor. I go into Kodiak to participate in the fight of the Aleutian area soon. After that Perry performed guards duty for minesweeping and help and Quartermaster Corps in the North Pacific area till I recaptured キスカ Island by Operation cottage of August 15, 1943. Perry left the アダック island on September 8 and arrived at San Francisco via Pearl Harbor, and repair was carried out. The fifth fleet (Lieutenant General Raymond Spruance) increased it when I came back to Pearl Harbor on November 27 and comprised it for the fight of forthcoming Gilbert Marshall Islands. On January 31, 1944, Perry arrives off クェゼリン atoll and deals with the antisubmarine caution of the carrier anchorage. Five days later, I guard a transportation fleet to Noumea. On April 3, I came for a fight of New Guinea as one warship of the second underwater mine group. Perry arrives at the Gulf of Milne, and, three days later, it is joined by the United States Seventh Fleet (Thomas C Kyn Quaid lieutenant general). I act with 第 77.3 duty group and get an anti-submarine patrol and guards duty. I arrived off アイタペ () on April 22 and performed the minesweeping of a tub island and the sea area between ARA Islands and performed an anti-submarine patrol and a heat support duty. Join the fifth fleet through Solomon who performed a military manoeuvre in the New Guinea area until May 6 more again; for fights of next Mariana Islands Palau Islands got ready.
Perry is admitted into the 第 51.17 duty group and I arrive off Saipan on June 13 and start the cause of the heat support of the battleship which has been made a sect, minesweeping in the face of the enemy from the 58th duty corps (mark ミッチャー lieutenant general). The minesweeping is over on the next day and I perform the support to the landing party afterwards and perform the guards duty to protect a transportation war vessel ahead of the confrontation with the Japanese fleet approaching again as much as possible. Perry left the Saipan offing on June 26 and, toward Eniwetok, went to Guam after having joined the 第 53.1 duty group. Perry was going to go ashore prior to a fight of Guam and, from July 14 to 20th, carried out the minesweeping of the sea area, and heat support people increased it after a fight began on July 21. I left the Guam offing five days later and went to Eniwetok, but I performed bombardment from a warship for ロタ island in the middle and arrived at Eniwetok while guarding a transportation fleet. Perry was performed a cruise of in the Solomon sea area and participated in practice and would comprise it for the fight in the Palau area to come to, but, as a result, this Palauan fight became the last of the military service of Perry
On September 6, the second underwater mine group including Perry makes a sortie in Florida Islands. I arrived off ペリリュー island on September 12 and was going to start a minesweeping duty. Finish gear exchange by 10:28 of the thing which an underwater mine explodes at 8:11, and a gear of Perry damages; in the afternoon when was early, it was preparations to come back to the original duty, and entered at night, and reopened minesweeping and an anti-submarine patrol. I continued minesweeping early in the morning on September 13, the following day. At 14:18, Perry is hit by an intense underwater explosion around the hull central part in the place where I reached off アンガウル island. Power was cut off, and all the main machines crushed the fire box the warship ahead. Steam and fuel blew up from everywhere of the warship, and the hull inclined to 30 degrees. The slants increased every moment, and the captain gave it an order to start 総員退艦 at 14:20. There was not the effect of the thing which made an effort that laying destroyer pre-bulldog () (USS Preble, DM-20) of the sister ship came close and kept Perry alive, and all crew left Perry at 15:15. Perry overturned at 16:05 and I divided the hull into two and set in the bottom of the sea of 40 fathoms at 16:07 two minutes later.
Perry was presented with six war stars () by an achievement of World War II.
Discovery of the hull
As for the alone rally tanks of the survivor of Perry, the crew friend who shared fate with Perry and Perry was unforgettable and I collected the kinds of the souvenir and turned around. It is 1999 and asks Palauan diving shop "Fish 'n Fins" which there was of the reputation for a search of Perry of the bottom of the sea by the search of the Japanese warship ship which sank of the Palauan area of the sea. The owner of the shop decides a search of Perry based on records and starts a search under the tanks call on May 1, 2000. It was searched Perry without several degrees, but ended all in failure until now. However, the bottom of the sea of 75 meters of depth of the water was able to identify the hull of Perry who lay in a state of two buckling up after a start in more than four hours. I was the 78-year-old birthday of tanks on that day. In addition, a sinking point is the place where it cannot arrive at when it is not the diver who acquired a technique of the technical diving. [2]
