| Ladder jellyfish |
One of the jellyfishes that ladder jellyfish Climacocodon ikarii Uchida belongs to a hydrozoan rope. I have characteristic to give a feeler with a step outside an umbrella. In addition, it is floating characteristics until a polyp.
Table of contents
Characteristic
This jellyfish was listed based on a collection product of 北海道忍路 in 1924 by Toru Uchida. It is a small jellyfish approximately 1mm, but, outside of the umbrella along the emission pipe, I have a feeler like steps, and there has been no such placement elsewhere. In addition, at the time of this mention, the polyp was listed at the same time, too, and it was a floating-related thing. I write Kubota(1979) as "the floating-related hydrozoan which is aberrant" (eccentric, abnormal の will) to describe this jellyfish [2].
Jellyfish
The umbrella is almost 1mm in height, 0.6mm in width in the form of the cube. Four emission water pipes extend to the edge of the umbrella, and it is the structure of the normal jellyfish that a feeler lengthens from the place where it reached the edge of the umbrella, but there is not the feeler with this kind in this position. The feeler goes out of the outside of the umbrella along the side of the umbrella, an emission water pipe. The placement begins in the edge of horizontal plane on the umbrella, and by two appear to three steps downward first from one of them, there. The form that the mouth pattern was big, and inverted a flask. The sex gland develops around a mouth pattern. The color is transparent; an emission water pipe, a circular water pipe and the mouth pattern brown [3].
However, the thing which Kubota(1979) collected in Muroran includes a bigger individual and reports it when the form was different. The big individual at that time reached 4.6mm in height of the umbrella, and the group of the feeler reached five steps. In the thing collected at the same time then, there was the thing which had five sets of feelers with the thing of 2mm in height of the umbrella. Of these, it was about the same, and after all a feeler was two of them to the fourth lower set, but there were a lot of feelers to the fifth set and was 2-4 in the small individual, but reached 17 with the big thing that it was recorded to three sets of the top till then.
Polyp
A polyp does not have a hydrostem and is considered that I float and live [4].
When a state of アクチヌラ includes this, I get the hydropattern without a jellyfish bud to an immediate early larva, too. The size is milky-white with approximately 0.3-0.5mm small. There is the mouth in the point of the short tubular mouth cone and several slim sensation in the mouth hands are annular and line up under a little than the side, the mouth of the mouth cone. In addition, around a round gastral cavity, an anti-sensation in the mouth hand forms a lump of 2 or 3 and includes approximately ten feelers each. The anti-sensation in the mouth hand is longer than a sensation in the mouth hand [5].
The released larva has begun to form a jellyfish bud in the laboratory approximately one week later, but there is it by an opening, and, as for it, there is extremely extremely little number of jellyfish buds. It was this point in time, and the volume of polyp was approximately 0.7mm, but they gradually grew up and added to the number of the jellyfish bud, and 1.6-2.3mm in length, the width reached 0.8-0.9mm after 25th. The mouth cone accounts for 1.0-1.4mm in length and the big part of the polyp with a pipe form, and this part can greatly stretch and contract. It is annular, and the sensation in the mouth hands form a line slightly than a mouth below, but newly already produce one line inside of the first line. The length is shorter than the first thing. The body part bulges in a circle, and after all there is the bunch of the anti-sensation in the mouth hand of 2-3. The jellyfish bud develops around the base of the mouth cone, and the jellyfish bud to 15-30 or more is gathered up to one branch each, and there is it 5-7 [6].
The structure of this polyp is similar to クダウミヒドラ genus Tubularia, but they adhere to other things in hydrostem and rhizocaul. But when it was exposed to angry waves, there was the example that this was separated, and it planned to be concerned in the origin of this kind of polyp. However, I think that it is not a sessile thing inherently because Kubota is making of this polyp, and structure about the adherence is not seen at all. It is considered that this form fitted plankton life in seawater, but I am depressed during the still water and can live [7].
Cyst
Kubota(1993) identified a cyst as a dormancy state of this seed. While I bred the jellyfish which I collected in January according to it, a produced egg just stuck to the wall of the container and I secreted a film and became the cyst. The cyst is milky-white in the form that is flat, and became lively a little. It was 0.22-0.28mm in diameter. A polyp developed at seawater temperature 12 degrees Celsius at seawater temperature 6 degrees Celsius one month later three months later when I maintained this while changing seawater. After all I grew a normal jellyfish when I bred it in the same form that this polyp was released commonly by a jellyfish. Because this seed is a jellyfish, and Kubota turns up in a polyp only at cold time, I estimate it when this kind spends other time in the state of the cyst [8].
Reproduction and outbreak
Distribution
It is rare and is collected at the Hokkaido coast in spring from winter. There is not the record that is certain from other area. There is a collected report once in Vietnam, but mention is extremely short [10].
