Geography

It is located in central part of Kagoshima-shi, the lower Kotsuki River area. I put the Kotsuki River to Nanrinjicho, the south in the north of the town area, and, Shimoarata, Arayashiki-cho contacts with Jonanchou, Kinko-cho, the west each east.

History

Establishment of the Shioya village

I was divided for Kanei era five years by Takemura (a part of current ) and was established as Shioya village of Satsuma country Kagoshima-gun neighboring villages [3]. There are a lot of red light districts in the neighborhood of Okita district from the Edo era (called 沖之村遊郭), and the Tsukiji red light district that there was near current Kagoshima Station in (1899) in 1899 is said by construction of Kagoshima Station that I moved to 沖之村遊郭内 [7].
