Summary

The central Kitakyushu-shi station that is a doorway of Kyushu [1]. Having Honshu and the function as the point of contact of Kyushu, all trains of Sanyo Shinkansen and Kyushu Shinkansen stop and it is the starting point of Nippo Main Line which binds each city of East Kyushu together in the old line and there are many limited express trains and is traveled. It is the terminal station that many trains perform the first train, last arrival of including other routes in the transfer station of the Shinkansen and the limited express train.

I practice medicine as a station of the Kyushu railroad (the first generation) in 1891. I met at first near current Nishi-Kokura Station, but became the current position after a transfer of twice. The Sanyo Shinkansen started a business in 1975 and became the stop, and a current station building rode completion, the Kitakyusyu monorail which bound Kokuraminami together at the same time in 1998.

In the Kyushu Railway Company station, it is in divergence Station of 2 principal roads of Kyushu called Nippo Main Line running through East Kyushu starting from Kagoshima Main Line lengthening to Fukuoka, the West Kyushu area that is the position line of our station [2] and this station. It is the station of "the Kitakyusyu city" in the specific capital ward city system, and a Kyushu Railway Company, West Japan Railway station is center Station of the fare calculation.

The beginning of opening of business existed near current Nishi-Kokura Station, but I moved once in (1915) in 1915 and moved to the present location more in (1958) in 1958. Toyosuke's raku ware garden Stadium existed in the neighborhood of current Shinkansen entrance in those days, and a sponsorship game of Nishitetsu Lions was held irregularly, but was closed with a move of Kokura Station (Ogura Stadium builds it as a new baseball stadium).

It is in the 14th floor, the third-floor station building above the ground under the ground, and there are a concourse and a wicket on Shinkansen home and a monorail home, the third floor on the fourth floor an old line home on the second floor. The old line has island-type home four 8 lane, home two 4 line island-type as for the Shinkansen. Each wicket is on the third floor, and, as for the old line, a wicket is on the first floor. Because our station is a terminal, a service system is complicated because many trains run in it. Remarks

  • There is communication to Honshu through facilities and the barrier railroad tunnel for exclusive use of the freight of Higashiogura Station or the Kitakyusyu freight terminal station on the east side from our station. On the other hand, Kagoshima Main Line and Nippo Main Line become the diverging structure in the west. A grade separation is made between Higashiogura Station and Kokura Station and is considered so that a freight train does not intersect a passenger train; and including the Higashiogura Station yard to Kagoshima Main Line and Nippo Main Line is smooth; come to be able to go in and out. Shuttle service between Kagoshima Main Line and Nippo Main Line was considered according to the later description again in the west; is wired.
  • The train to communicate directly turns down Kagoshima Main Line Hakata area and Nippo Main Line on account of the linear shape at our station as having mentioned above, and a line is reversed. Around station

It is an inner city of Kitakyushu-shi, the greatest downtown, and commerce, duties function centers. There are Kitakyushu-shi government office and Ogura Castle, the Kokurakita-ku government office on the opposite bank across purple river, and Nishi-Kokura Station is nearer, but is foot around 1km from our station.

Route

  • Some places leave the Asano Wharf of the Shinkansen mouth, but there are a municipal ferryboat (for Ainoshima, Majima), the route of Matsuyama, the Ogura ferry (Ogura - Matsuyama (Ehime)).

Ogura station square stop of Nishitetsu Kitakyushu Line was established before Kokura Station move of (1958) on the street with a car track of the station south in 1958. With a move of Kokura Station, new Ogura station square stop was installed in the intersection of street with a car track and peace street (Ogura station square intersection) east side in (1958) in 1958, and the former Ogura station square stop renamed it to the Muromachi stop.

Both old and new stops were structure of two 2 lines with the platforms with the safety zones in each up and down line. All became the abolition by the abolition between Kitakyusyu Line Sunatsu - Kurosakiekimae of October 25 (1992) in 1992.

Other

Kitakyusyu junior chamber of commerce plays a key role and forms "a meeting thinking about a station name of Kitakyushu-shi" and performs exercise to change its name from Kokura Station to "Kitakyusyu Station" [15].
