It is the picture which Claude Monet drew in 1872, and the name of the Impressionists is derived from "impression, sunrise" (いんしょう, ひので, Buddha: Impression, soleil levant).
I describe the scenery of the port of city le アーヴル in northwestern France in the movement of the tender writing brush. Monet explains, "I was said to be it when I want you to attach a title to put it on the catalogue, but I was not able to touch the title called "a view of le アーヴル" in this and said that I want it as "an impression" there." about the title of this work later.
"Claude Monet.72" and a signature were written down in the lower left, but because there was not the record that Monet visited the field in 1872, this signature was done with an error in writing and has been done with a work described in for a long time in 1873 [1]. In addition, by the reason of being listed in an auction catalogue at the time of 1878 with "an impression, the sunset", there was the opinion which I described the sunset in not the sunrise [2]. Musee Marmottan Monet which possessed this product performed an investigation to identify the production date and time with astronomer Donald W Olsen and others of American Texas State University in 2014 and announced that I was more likely to describe scenery at "November 13, 1872 about 7:35" based on position, tide level, weather of the sun [1]. In addition, the described direction was proved to be southeastern from the local hotel where Monet stayed in, and it was settled that the sunrise was a motif [2].
This picture was displayed by an open first Impressionists exhibition in 1874. Louis ルロワ (Louis Leroy) of the commentator saw the title of this work and, in a review article of the satire newspaper le シャリヴァリ (Le Charivari) paper which oneself was in charge of, described this exhibition as "an exhibition of the Impressionism" with sense and malice of the contempt. This naming colonized later, and he became the godparent of "the Impressionists" without intending.
This picture is stolen from Musee Marmottan Monet in 1985 and is discovered in 1990. It is displayed again from 1991.
