A state (オーブラスチ) where Arkhangelsk (Архангельскаяобласть) belongs to Northwestern Federal District in northwestern Russian Federation. The state capital is Arkhangelsk. I include district under jurisdiction of ネネツ self-government and Novaya Zemlya and ゼムリャフランツァヨシファ.

Geography
It is located in the northern part of the Eastern Europe plain. The White Sea、The Barents Sea、The Kara Seaに faces it. I am next to Karelia to Komi Republic, the west to the east. The main river is the Northern Dvina.
Most of Arkhangelsk except Novaya Zemlya and ゼムリャ フランツァヨシファ are covered in taiga. It is Sour Orange and a pine to be distributed most widely, and a fir tree, a Japanese larch are seen only in the eastern part. The climate is continental, and subantarctic climate is seen in the northeastern part.
History
It is the about twelfth century in the eleventh century that a Russian (ポモール) began domiciliation in this area where a race of fin ウゴル origin lived in. The ポモール discover Arctic passage toward the northern part of Siberia from ホルモゴルイ in the east including a search. In the early 16th century, I opened the port in マンガゼヤ.
When first seaport town Arkhangelsk was built in Russia in 1584 by the Ivan fourth (thunder emperor), I connected the Northeast Passage by way of Arctic passage and the Scandinavian Peninsula northern coast from マンガゼヤ of the Siberia based in here and prospered in trade with the U.K. (Moscow company) and the Netherlands very much. Arkhangelsk developed. The primary product of this time is a fur.
When St. Petersburg is opened in 1703, the importance of Arkhangelsk for the U.K. and the Netherlands decreases. プレセツク space station (Plesetsk Cosmodrome) is to the south of state capital Arkhangelsk.

I was considered to be a concentration camp for Stalin Era, and the ソロヴェツキー monastery of the ソロヴェツキー archipelago has become the model of later グラグ. Alexander Solzhenitsyn drew labor and the torture at the camp on the novel "camp group of islands" and won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970.
