Adris tyrannus amurensis (akebi Konoha moth, a scientific name: Eudocima tyrannus) is an insect of the butterfly eyes noctuid department. Kind of the large moth.

Form, habits

The forewing is a dead leaf form, and olive drab, the hind wing have a black crest in yellow or orange. At the time of the standstill, I completely hide this showy hind wing under the forewing. Then it is mimesis looking just like the dead leaf which there is on the head tip to a leafstalk and hides myself. The length of the forewing is approximately 50mm.

A larva is a smooth green caterpillar, and there is big ocellation in the anterior body. I lift the part when stimulated and bend a head inward. This is the posture that ocellation is outstanding; of the threat it is thought that have a meaning. I assume an akebi edible grass according to the name, but often see it in a residential area to occur to the Stauntonia hexaphylla of the others garden.

Distribution

I am distributed over the Himalayas, the Russian Federation Amur district from China including Japan.

Close species

I am distributed over Asia widely, and there is much this similar Haga in the tropical zone of South America, Africa. In Japan, I produce キマエコノハ and ヒメアケビコノハ besides. I come flying and I suck a liquid of 熟果 such as a peach, a pear, a mandarin orange, the grape and harm all the orchard very much by night.
