Commentary

I recorded the British first place, United States ninth place. It is a chart first place acquisition work only for ELP.

For ELP, it is counted in one of the masterpieces along with "Pictures from an Exhibition" (1971), "brain reform (1973) of the fear".

"The Tal refuse" which is title music becomes the magnificent suite more than 20 minutes. Monster, Talca's in the imagination appears from a volcano and destroys all ground exhaustively, and it is in a story to return to the sea. It is a very satirical illustration that an uncooked food drawn on the album jacket is Talca's, and a tank is united with the body such as the armadillo. In addition, the title "manticore" of the musical piece in the suite becomes the name of the label which ELP establishes later. In the Greg lake, there is the episode that swore to Keith Emerson coolly saying "I do it in solo" at first without being interested in the concept of this work.

In the sleeve notes, Keith Emerson states, "I did not know it even if Talca's (Tarkus) is the word that flashed suddenly on the way home, and there is not the meaning in particular and checks a dictionary".

In addition, the musical pieces such as the short piece form a line. The element of the progressive strongly appears in "The Only Way" and "Infinite Space" (in an end of the limitless space), but "Are You Ready Eddy?" is a work of the complete rock'n roll. This music is said to be the contents which made fun of a recording engineer. The engineer is Eddie オフォード becoming famous as a producer of yes later.

The composition cooperates in three members, but Greg lake performs the words. A lake is in charge of the produce.

Influence

  • This cord is used, and the cord of ド F ソ シ b ミ b which is approximately used in the whole book of "the Tal refuse" which is title music is known for much music of ELP as a constant seller when I aimed at the sound that it is ELP-like by a trade mark-like sound of Keith Emerson.
  • Japanese guitarist, Shigeru Narumo play parody music "pail refuse" of "the Tal refuse" in the album of the band Fra id egg of the self.
  • There is a progressive rock band with "the Tal refuse" which is title music as a band name in Brazil. However, I play symphonic progressive rock not a style such as ELP musically.
  • The thing which Takashi Yoshimatsu who is a Japanese composer arranged as an orchestra version is recorded in "Talca's - classical music meets lock" released in 2010. Yoshimatsu and deep Yukio Fujioka of the friendship are in charge of the conduct, and the orchestral music performance records a live of the premiere by Tokyo Philharmonic orchestra symphony orchestra (March 14, 2010 日於東京 opera city concert hall). In addition, an orchestra version is used in NHK TV saga "Kiyomori Taira" of the broadcast as music during the dramas in 2012 (the performance is the same as conduct, but records it newly). Was performed on March 20, 2013; "even a "concert sound exhibition of the bird" was played on the Takashi Yoshimatsu sixtieth birthday (a meeting place and conduct, the orchestral music performance agree with the premiere), but visited it so that Keith Emerson listened then. Of "[sound exhibition of the bird] live" that recorded the design of this concert the talk of Keith Emerson and Takashi Yoshimatsu is placed in the sleeve notes, too.
  • By "a concert broadcasted on September 9, 2012 without the title," a "Tal refuse" wind music version made from the orchestra version mentioned above by Siena wind orchestra and costarring with Eitetsu Hayashi of the sum tambour was broadcasted.
