Building
The Ho Chi Minh citizen Theater has a smaller scale than Hanoi University Theater built from 1901 through 1911. It was built as a theater having 800 seats which I modelled on opera Garnier of Paris and pleased French settlers [1].
It was the time, and, according to Felix Olivier, the characteristic of building it was completed in Ernest ギシャール and director Eugene Ferre 1900. With gorgeous フランボワイヤン style affected by French third coKazumasa, the facade resembles プティ Pare built in France in the same year. I added it to the floor that played a key role of the seat in a theater, and there were two upper ranks more and was able to accommodate 1,800 at one time. The thing due to the hand of the French writer was carried in epigraph, decoration, all the fittings by France [2].
The facade of the theater was decorated with a signature and the relief of the フランボワイヤン style as well as Ho Chi Minh citizen Theater, but was exposed to the criticism to be too gorgeous. A part of the decoration was removed in 1943, but a city worked on the reconstruction in commemoration of 300, Saigon anniversary in 1998. The current theater has 500 seats.
History
In 1863 after the Cochin-China capture, French settlers invited a theatrical company to Saigon and, in the villa of the France admiral whom there was in Pare de ロルロージュ, held the performance for the French military. This place is the corner of a Don carp street and the Nguyen Doe Street now. In しばらくののち, the place where an empty bell hotel stood now, a temporary theater was built. The construction of the Saigon opera house was started as a new theater in 1898 and was completed on January 1, 1900.
During World War I and World War II, 阮朝 under the Cochin-China dogedom bore all expenses including round-trip movement costs of the theatrical company which visited Saigon from France. A theater did not have the popularity, and, in spite of a theater designed for the spare time of the middle class who grew up, a nightclub and dance halls increased rapidly in the city. A performance of concert and Vietnamese traditional arts chi ルォン was occasionally only held during this period.
In view of the criticism for the facade of the theater, a soaring budget, 阮朝政府 was going to change a theater into a concert hall, but was not come true. The theater became the neat figure by removing the decoration including a sculpture and the image instead in 1943. In 1944, I received the air strike of the alliance national military for Imperial Army, and the theater did not function.
When Japan surrendered to the allied powers, France returned to Cochin-China. In 1954, the French military surrendered to the Viet Minh by a fight of Dien Bien Phu and agreed Geneva agreement in the same year. The theater was used then as a temporary evacuation site of the general French who evacuated by North Vietnam.
In 1955, a theater was restored and became the Lower House assembly hall of of Viet Nam followed by the Vietnamese republic (South Vietnam). After the Saigon fall of 1975, I came to be used again as a theater. In 1998, the facade of the theater was corrected in original form in commemoration of the Saigon foundation 300th anniversary.
