Position of Transkei in the Southern Africa

It was located in the eastern part of State of current east cape. "Transkei" means "the other side of the chi river" (opposite of Ciskei).

History

  • The Kuomintang government suggests an establishment bill of ten racial autonomous district "Bantustan" special verbally aiming at various original development in South Africa of a race in 1959. Transkei and Ciskei were suggested as a Xhosa area.
  • Transkei Bantustan approves it in a South African assembly in 1963 and becomes the autonomous district formally. Kaiser マタンジマ equal to the nephew of Nelson Mandela is despotic and holds real power mainly.
  • I establish the position of the independent country as Transkei republic in 1976. I assumed a capital ウムタタ. But the position of the independent country was approved only by South Africa.
  • It was said that マタンジマ breaks off diplomatic relations with South Africa in 1978, but withdraws it because I depended on the economical help from the country.
  • マタンジマ expels the King of the ten boo group in 1980, and a result king takes refuge in Zambia.
  • Corruption of マタンジマ is found out in 1986 and resigns.
  • The coup d'etat outbreak by the Bantu Jolo mass (English version) major general of 1987 Transkei Defence Force. Join African National Congress (ANC) afterwards, and is relatively safe for cooperation, ANC activity; local.
  • Transkei merges with South Africa based on an agreement with "new life" South Africa in 1994.
