David Kalakaua (David Kalākaua, from November 16, 1836 to January 20, 1891) is the seventh king of the Hawaiian kingdom. In David La `amea Kamanakapu `u Mahinulani Nalaiaehuokalani Lumialani Kalākaua, there was the pronunciation of the surname formally in the seat of the king until "カラーカウア" is near and dies in San Francisco from February 12, 1874, and he is the foreign head of state who visited Japan for the first time in history again.

Life

Kalakaua

After having died without the Kamehameha fifth appointing an inheritor, Kalakaua faced king election of 1872, but is defeated by ルナリロ which better-known, was innovative at this time. However, because ルナリロ king died without after all appointing a successor on February 3, 1874, Kalakaua ran for the king the next day on February 4, and I broke Queen Emma who was a widow of the Kamehameha fourth, and I was picked by the king. A supporter of the Queen Emma causes a riot in this election and causes a dead person. Kalakaua borrowed the United States and naval power of the U.K. and suppressed these riots. Because the king Kalakaua nominated William Pitt レレイオホク of the younger brother for an inheritor, I told the end in the times to elect the king by election (but レレイオホク leaves the world because of rheumatic fever earlier from Kalakaua).

The king Kalakaua performs negotiations with the United States of America for economy of Hawaii positively and I go to Washington by oneself in November, 1874 and meet President Grant. I rowed it to the place to let you accept the sugar which was a Hawaiian article for sale and import liberalization of rice in March, 1875.

I left Hawaii that the king Kalakaua learned about the issue of emigrant in 1881 and improved diplomatic relations again and visited Japan, China, Siam, Burma, India, Egypt, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, the U.K. via San Francisco and came back to Hawaii via the United States. I interview with the Emperor Meiji in Japan which became the visit to Japan of the first foreign sovereign and want to call for a political marriage of request of the emigrant and カイウラニ princess and 山階宮定磨王 (His Imperial Highness Prince のちの Yorihito Higashifushiminomiya) [1] and meet the Queen Victoria of the Leo thirteenth and the Queen of others, the Pope U.K. (the latter was declined by the Meiji government). リリウオカラニ of the younger sister was the rule as regency during the absence of the king Kalakaua.

The king Kalakaua had a design to build the Polynesian empire. I secure the budget for 30,000 dollars for the alliance formation in Polynesia in 1886 and reach the agreement of マリエトア king and Polynesia alliance establishment of Samoa. However, this design becomes extinct in a coup d'etat of 1887, the following day.

In 1887, a voice for the abolition of abdication of Kalakaua or Imperial rule in itself and the merger to the United States of America increased led by an emigrant of Sanford Dole and others United States ancestry and I formed a Hawaiian league and took the gun and gathered it. The king Kalakaua for fear of this came to cannot but receive a new constitution as a bargaining point. This is a bayonet constitution (English version). This constitution largely accepted the franchise of the wealthy American emigrant substantially, and the king Kalakaua lost most of the substantial power. In contrast, there was the resistance by the Hawaiian officer Robert Williams will coxswain, too, but ended in failure.

The king Kalakaua falls sick by alcoholism in 1890 and moves to San Francisco on the recommendation of the doctor. I die on January 20, 1891. リリウオカラニ of his younger sister who became the Queen of the Hawaiian kingdom last posthumously succeeded you.

Kalakaua is nicknamed Mary モナーク (cheerful monarch) from the gorgeous life, and, by his achievement, a meeting of Fra "throws away Mary モナーク feh every year now in Hawaii Island, and, as for what brought back prohibited Fra, Baru" is held by Christianity propagator. In addition, Iolani Palace which he built in Honolulu is the only palace in the United States of America.
