Sadogashima (さどしま, さどがしま) [1] is an island of neighborhood 262.7km to be located in West Niigata, and the whole area is Sado-shi, Niigata. The population 58,047 people (as of December 1, 2014).

The area is 854.76km2[1]. I am approximately 48% of area of Tokyo (Tokyo's 23 wards, Tama area) except the islands part 1791.47km2, and this is equivalent to approximately 45% of area 1897.86km2 of Osaka. I have an area next to Okinawa Island in 4 main islands such as Honshu and island except the northern territories of Japan [2].

In addition, the distance of neighborhood 262.7km is equivalent to route distance 269.5km of the Joetsu Shinkansen (Omiya Station - Niigata Station approximately 100 minutes) which almost crosses Honshu. With the radar site of the Self-Defense Forces which the best altitude is 1,172m of Mount Kinpoku, and watch a constant air boundary of the Sea of Japan on the Mt. Myouken (1,042m above sea level) mountaintop of the west side [3].

It is an island of the characteristic form similar to the print of "e" of the katakana or "S" of the alphabet.

I can classify the topography roughly into three. The country relation plains (くになかへいや) of the grain belt open between Wataru Osa Mountains (こさどさんち) [4], these two to the large Sado Mountains (おおさどさんち), south to the north.

Great Sado Mountains are higher, and there is highest Mount Kinpoku (1,172m). The highest score of Wataru Osa Mountains is a large natural hill (645m). Whole Sado is included in Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Seminational Park.

In the north side Coast of great Sado Mountains, Senkaku-wan Bay is famous of the range for approximately 50km cliff and innumerable reefs in the beauty spot where a mountain approaches in the sea. The Wataru Osa Mountains do not have violence to be seen in the great Sado Mountains, and it is in the calm hilly areas where the wild mandarin orange and tea are seen in.

The country relation plains are large for Hirano of the island, and moisture, paddy-rice cultivation are performed in many rivers. There is Gulf of Ryotsu on the east side Gulf of Mano in the west of country relation plains. The Kokufu river flowing through the country relation plains flows into the Gulf of Mano. It is at the east end of country relation plains, and oyster culture is performed in two places of Lake Kamo (brackish water lake) and the Gulf which are a maximum lake of Mano in Niigata.

Climate

Temperature is higher approximately 1-2 degrees than the mainland side of Niigata in winter, and, for the whole Sado, there is little snow from the influence that Tsushima Current of the warm current flows through the Sado offing. But, like the Aikawa area of the northwest side of great Sado Mountains, there is the area receiving the periodic wind from the northwest direction. As for the morning and the night difference of temperature, as for the temperature, the circumference is cooler around 1-2 degrees than the mainland side of Niigata smaller than that of mainland in the summer for the sea.

I can divide the climate into three when I look at Sado Shimauchi individually, and, in the north side of large Sado Mountains, there is the snow under the influence of wind from the Sea of Japan, and the south side of the Wataru Osa mountainous district is relatively warm, and there is little snow. Country relation plains are the middle.

Vegetation can be full of it and is rich to be at a warm current and the point of contact of the cold current, and a plant of Hokkaido, the Okinawa both districts characteristic is a very rare vegetation area living together in Shimauchi.
