History

Place name

"Notogawa" was a capital letter name in southwestern town and was only one subsection name of the Iba village (current Ibacho, Higashi-Omi-shi) before the modern times. It was the Meiji era, and, in separated Notogawa-mura, even turnout, the 官設鉄道 (Tokaido Main Line in the back) plan of the Lake Biwa east bank were chosen as the station proposed site with Hikone and Yawata as a port of call of the steamships between Nagahama, Otsu by the Iba village. A plan was changed, and the station would be established in the boundary of five Minemura and Yawata village approximately 1km away from Notogawa-mura, but "Notogawa" was adopted for a station name, and the times when an administration name and a station name did not agree continued afterwards. Originally around station which was farmland matched the advances such as spinning mills and developed, and the name of Notogawa penetrated as the place name which pointed to around station widely. On the occasion of Shinmachi start of 1942, "Notogawa" was adopted in a name of a street by a station name, and the administrative name and station name of the station location agreed, and the state continued until a merger afterwards. [1][2]

In addition, place name in itself called "Kawamachi, Noto" exists now because Kawamachi, Noto larger section of a village Notogawa became "Notogawacho, Higashi-Omi-shi" after Higashi-Omi-shi establishment.
