Blue Moon Rendering Tools (abbreviated designation :BMRT) was the photore-ant stick rendering system which was compatible with most famous RenderMan and was a pioneer of Gelato of NVIDIA [1]. BMRT was distributed as a freeware. BMRT was popular with the students who were going to learn RenderMan interface. In addition, there was a few function in PhotoRealistic RenderMan such as the ray tracing. I used BMRT until PRMan was equipped with a ray tracing function even in Pixar. Bugs life, Stewart little, the cell were invisible and, according to Exluna, were used for 3D rendering such as en:Woman on Top.

Larry Gritz was in Cornell University, and BMRT was developed [2]. He developed BMRT in the early 1990s and showed it for the first time in 1994. And it was hired for Pixar to incorporate those functions in PhotoRealistic RenderMan.

Last version 2.6 as BMRT was shown in November, 2000. First version 3.0 of Entropy which was succession of BMRT was released in July, 2001.

Gritz left Pixar in 2000 and I stood and put up a company called Exluna which assumed Entropy a main product. I add various functions based on BMRT, and Entropy is optimized RenderMan レンダラ. Following the fact that NVIDIA purchased Exluna and Entropy in 2002, Pixar appealed for Gritz and Exluna (current NVIDIA) by the infringement of a leak, the copyright of patent infringement, trade secrets. This matter was settled by a development stop of BMRT and Entropy. The staff of Gritz and other Exluna develops Gelato レンダラ in NVIDIA.
