History

Origin

According to the recollection of William G Morgan (the designer of the volleyball), the origin of 1895 was the following flows. At first inside gutty of the basketball [note 1] was used, but it was too light, and the movement of the ball was dull. I used basketball itself next, but was too heavy this time. Therefore I placed an order in Spalding Corporation and had you almost make volleyball such as the same kind that you were used now [1].

Change

The material of the outside was a natural hide at first (cowhide), but artificial hides become mainstream now.

In 1998 FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) in the indoor the use of "the color ball" the removal of a ban (already introduce it by the beach volleyball) [note 2].

The thing which had been constructed by 18 pieces of panel (3*6) [note 3] for a long time was mainstream.

MVA200

From BEIJING OLYMPIC of 2008, FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) performs adoption [3] of new product "MVA200" (I use a clarino of KURARAY Corporation with eight pieces of panels) [2] of Mikasa Corporation as an international authorized ball, and this ball is becoming mainstream worldwide afterward.

The feature is that parts with many curve parts are laminated into a spiral (eddy) form. Was depended on the company by FIVB saying "want to make the ball which Larry followed" [4]; [5].

Unlike a conventional color ball, it was epoch-making that there were not white parts at all. In addition, there is a brand (SPIKE VOLLEY) of how to put on that is complete asymmetry to a domestic sale product COSCO shrine (India).

Breaking ball

Is the product which investigated control characteristics [note 4], but have the impression that orbit of the batted ball became easy to change rather conventionally (by nothing rotary serve); a player is to the person concerned [6]; [7].

眞鍋政義監督 of the all-Japan girl dispatches a coach in the laboratory of the Tokai University department of engineering [8] in 2010. I asked it for the study of the characteristic of MVA200. Findings such as [10] which "felt a change, actually, psychologically more with more than of yellow that a part came than blue for the receiving side" which "were easy to change most at 10-15m per second time" [9] appeared.

Standard

In FIVB, rule revision of the reduction (with the maximum former: from 0.425kgf/cm2 newly: to 0.325kgf/cm2) of the inner atmospheric pressure was made in 1998 [11].

In the indoor, the use use has a smaller diameter than general [note 5].

The beach volleyball use is slightly bigger than indoor public business, and the internal pressure is considerably different.
