History

The ジャルート atoll became the German protectorate from 1884 and was governed as a part of Germany territory New Guinea from 1906.

The ジャルート atoll was occupied during World War I by the Japanese Navy. After the military administration period, whole South Sea Islands including Marshall Islands became the Japanese mandate from (1922) in 1922. For the rule era in Japan, the ジャルート atoll was referred to shop route atoll of the German reading, and shop route Subprefectural Office of the South Seas agency (later eastern branch shop route branch office) was put in the ジャボール island (Jabor) of the atoll, and it was in a center of the Japanese Marshall Islands rule. Therefore, from Yokohama Port and Koror, Palau to the ジャルート atoll, the regular line by Saipan circle of Nippon Yusen and the Palauan circle went into service.

Because there was a base of the Japanese Navy in the イミエジ (Imiej) island located in the eastern part of ジャルート atoll after the Pacific War (Greater East Asia War) outbreak of war of December (1941) in 1941, in the ジャルート atoll, it was the target of the United States Armed Forces. The Marshal Gilbert Islands movement air raid by the United States Armed Forces was carried out (1942) on February 21 in 1942, and 11 air raiders (the bomb equipment) and carrier-borne bomber 17 came flying in a warship, and specially installed transport Kanto circle was injured.

When the Gilbert Islands located in the south side of Marshall Islands (1943) in October in 1943 was occupied by the United States Armed Forces, the Japanese army extracted military power from the Kanto forces of the Manchurian country and organized sea movement first brigade. The military power of 2,311 people of those was sent to the ジャルート atoll and took up the defensive position with a member of naval brigade. The attack for Marshall Islands of the United States Armed Forces was started (1944) on January 31 in 1944, the following day, but an air raid and the bombardment with the war vessel were carried out for the ジャルート atoll, and there was not the landing of the United States Armed Forces corps. However, I started a large number of dead people to members of garrison by starvation and an epidemic because the supply such as food or pharmaceutical products from Japanese soil was cut off after this.

After the military administration period by the United States Armed Forces, Pacific Islands trust territory started after the war in 1947, and the ジャルート atoll became the trust territory of the United States. Because the United States which became a new ruler moved to the Majuro atoll which occupied the center of Marshall Islands all over the wartime, the ジャルート atoll declined. After Marshall Islands Government started in 1979, Marshall Islands became independent because Jiyurengo pledge took effect in 1986, and the ジャルート atoll became part.

"South Seas communication"

I write it down in the letter which I addressed to と wife. In contrast, "you begin that I said that ヤルート is the best in South Seas group of islands, and it is disgusted with [1] that is" (original mom) by the government official who resided in ジャルート for a long time.

Atsushi Nakajima takes it up in a sketchbook called atoll - ミクロネシヤ 巡島記抄 - about ジャルート atoll and writes events when I was invited to a house of great chief Amata Kabua of the ジャボール island afterwards. Amata Kabua is the person who became Republic of the Marshall Islands President Hatsuyo later.
