The monorail which was used for the communication of the meeting place at Turin international exhibition
I finished service at the time of the end of the exhibition and was removed afterwards.

ALWEG(Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren) comes from acronym of accelerator Ren naruto Venner = Glenn who undertook an enterprise in the form of the monorail.

Summary

It begins from the place that began the investigation into planned new means of transportation that John A ヘスティング introduces into Los Angeles in 1950. Originally German engineer レシャー had the patent of the monorail of the method to extend over the track, but accelerator Ren naruto Venner = Glenn (Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren) launched business in World War II because it became missing. Therefore I took an initial and came to be called "アルヴェーグ" (by ALWEG, the Japanese notation with "アルウェーグ"). Means of transportation research institute (Verkehrsbahn-Studiengesellshaft) established the business entity in 1951 and changed the name to the アルヴェーグ development (Alweg-Forschung GmBH) more in 1953. I was used for the communication of the meeting place at Turin international exhibition started on May 1, 1961 in Turin, Italy until October 31. In 1962, a アルヴェーグ-type monorail opened it to holding of the Seattle World Exposition in Seattle of the United States of America. Tokyo monorail started a business between Haneda Airport and Hamamatsucho in 1964. It is traveled at an international exposition in Japan during a session in 1970, and Kitakyusyu (1985), Osaka (1990), Tama (1998), Maihama (2001), Okinawa (2003) and the opening of business occur successively in the country, and it is in a scale of the world eminence by the now アルヴェーグ-type spread afterwards. KL monorail started a business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2003. These アルヴェーグ-type monorails are made in Hitachi, Ltd. undertaking the production of アルヴェーグ-type monorails single-handed as of each.

The characteristic is to run with the wheel which I fitted an air tire in. Therefore you must support the weight of the body with a rubber tire, and a tire grows big, and there is the fault that there is a part of the projection of the tire part in the inside of car. In addition, there is the thing which spreads a steel sheet floor that the surface way of the orbit figure assumes epoxy resin mixture a final coating. In addition, I do the orbit figure with a product made in big hollow I-shaped prestressed concrete, but I do it with a steel figure at the place needing trave having a long intersections and do it with 15-22m at the prop interval of the prop to support. After this method was adopted by Meitetsu Inuyama monorail (the 1962 opening of business -2008 year abolition), it is adopted by Yomiuri Land (the 1964 opening of business -1978 year abolition) and Tokyo monorail (the 1964 opening of business). Because Hitachi, Ltd. was engaged in the method used in these Japan, I am called "a Hitachi アルヴェーグ type" (Hitachi アルウェーグ type).

Good point of the アルヴェーグ-type monorail
  • Becoming it is easy a high shelf, and plottage to occupy is narrow. When I make means of transportation of orbit origin after a city area was formed, in this point, it is a big merit.
  • The scale of the structure becomes small when I become a high shelf and finishes construction costs cheaply.
  • There is less noise pollution than a thing to use the Article 2-type rail of the railroad for because I use a rubber tire, and there is not a trouble in a steep grade either [1]. In addition, a run is possible with the small curve of the curve radius than a railroad to use a narrow twin wheel in a run ring
Bad point of the アルヴェーグ-type monorail
  • I am complicated, and the price of the vehicle becomes slightly expensive the mechanism of the vehicle that a guidance wheel and a stability wheel are necessary for a cart (travelling equipment) other than a run wheel because a way is one of them of the orbit figure and equip one cart with around ten with a rubber tire.
  • High-speed performance is inferior to a thing to use the Article 2-type rail of the railroad for, and when I use a rubber tire, I roll, and resistance is bigger than an iron wheel, and therefore power costs increase.
  • Because I use a rubber tire, an exchange expense suffers briefly, and a rate of operation falls down, and an exchange interval is a trigger to push up the maintenance cost because abrasion every unit mileage is earlier than an iron wheel type.
  • Because burden load is smaller than the steel wheel of the railroad because I use a rubber tire, the capacity of the vehicle is smaller than a common railroad
  • I cannot make a railroad crossing with the mounted type monorail. When I became a high shelf, a fault did not have this, but it was a serious fault for the mounted type monorail established near the early surface of the earth.
  • When vehicle trouble happened because it is an elevated route, it is difficult to evacuate a passenger.
  • A scale is big, and, for a method to move heavy orbit figure, structure is complicated, and the turnout needs some time for a switch. Therefore there are a lot of even methods that were over as divergence is not developed. This is a serious fault and establishes the page [2] of the argument in the monorail fashionable society. In addition, 冒進 of the train to a turnout becomes the casualty, and the later restoration is not easy, too.
