Building process

10月から11月にかけて、秋月型駆逐艦は本艦以下4隻（秋月、初月、若月、霜月）が沈没、2隻（涼月、冬月）が被雷損傷するという損害を蒙った[99][156]。レイテ沖海戦以来「霜月」と行動を共にしていた伊勢型戦艦2番艦「日向」では、霜月沈没の報をうけて悲嘆と憤りが艦内に満ちたという[189]。

1945年（昭和20年）1月10日、秋月型2隻（若月、霜月）は 帝国駆逐艦籍[190]、 秋月型駆逐艦[191]、 第41駆逐隊のそれぞれから除籍された[192]。。
