I met in a stone wall village, but was merged with Beppu-shi once on September 4, 1935. The place name called the stone wall points at the whole stone wall village in a broad sense. Refer to the change of the Beppu-shi # governorate for the stone wall village village level.
Origin of the place name
The origin was not sure, but we had a fight of stone wall Hara at Battle of Sekigahara (1600) time.

- JR Nippo Main Line goes, but there is not the station. There was a plan to set up new Beppu Station once, but is not come true. The current nearest station is Beppu-Daigaku Station.
