Gin

"Gin" Oh, it is the novel which Ryunosuke Akutagawa announced on "Chuo Koron" magazine in (1922) in 1922.

Summary

One of genre "切支丹物" in the novel of Akutagawa. I take an example as early Christian oppression in the Edo era and describe a Christian idea and the feelings of the Japanese, the collision with the family system.

Outline

Genna of the early period of Edo era or the Kanei era year. The oppression to a Christian became severe with the promulgation of the prohibited religion law. I hid, and the Christian was sentenced to burning at the stake immediately as soon as I was discovered.

In such an occasion, there was a girl named Gin in the suburbs of Nagasaki, the mountain village village of Urakami. Originally she lived with parents in Osaka, but I lost parents and became an orphan after wandering to Nagasaki. I was covered with a farmer of the mountain village village, and "じょあん grandchild seven" of the Christian felt pity for such Gin and granted ぱぷちずもを and I gave you the name of "Maria" and did it with an adopted daughter of oneself. And I added wife "じょあんなおすみ" of grandchild seven and ran happy life to protect the doctrine as the Christian.

By the way, it is night of several years or later "machete and others" (Christmas). Grandchild seven who lived by hiding teaching quietly raised a cross on the wall only on this day and put water on the manger as a first bath of the states that popped in a cattle pen. Government officials raid the cause of such them. It was the family who hid, and was arrested as a Christian, but I paid it and endured the gate with patience until I went and outran you even if I received torture even if imprisoned.

On the other hand, the chief administrator of the side to blame cannot understand the reason why they set up obstinacy. Three people may be things of the outside of the human world not to go to of the blood possibly. The chief administrator who was unable to be in trouble decides to deal with burning to death with three people at last.

Three people were taken to the execution ground and were tied to a pillar each. Mountainous firewood is piled up on the root of the pillar. A large number of sightseers flock to the neighborhood.

Girl, Gin declared it by clear words then.

"I decided to throw away 御教"

I blame Gin whether let grandchild seven go through, seeing it is astonished while you are tied up, and you were possessed by the devil when a little more can worship the face of the Lord of Heaven.

The reason of the apostasy that Gin talked about was too unexpected…
