History

Former: Musashi country Toshima county Yanaka village

  • It was a place dotted with the farmer ground in a forest place originally.
  • When Kanei-ji Temple is built in Ueno in the Edo era, the annex is built to Yanaka in sequence. In addition, many temples move by a policy of the Shogunate from the neighborhood of Kanda for (from 1648 to 1651) in the go-between year, and a temple destroyed by fire after a big fire (1657) of the Meiryaku era moves. When the prayer visitors increase with the increase of the temple, Machiya is gradually formed, too and develops as a pleasure resort of the common people of Edo.
  • I separate the farmer ground (I produce Yanaka ginger mainly) under the cliff as Yanaka Motomura (for each one copy of current Higashinippori, Arakawa-ku 5.6 chome and 2, Nishinippori) for the Genroku era period. Teramachi on the cliff becomes the Yanaka village, but it is gradually made a city area, and a part is made the town ground, and it is in Yanakacho, Yanaka Misakicho ("I hate it, I do not lend it, it blooms, and the reading grows"). As this trace, it becomes the parishioner area of Suwa Shrine located at 2, Nishinippori, Arakawa-ku now.
  • Many temples are destroyed by fire by Ueno War by government troop and Shogi corps (1868). From 1869 (1869) through 1872 (1872); and each town of Misaki Kitamachi is rising in Misaki Minamicho, Yanaka in Yanaka Shimizu-cho, Yanaka Saka-cho, Yanaka Hatsunecho 1-4 chome, Yanaka Chayacho, Yanaka Mashima town, Yanaka. Each these Yanaka town is incorporated into the Shitaya ward (1878) with Ueno on November 2 in 1878. At this point, the Yanaka village still remained, too, but I was admitted into the Shitaya ward with Tokyo City birth (1889) on May 1 in 1889 ("valley Nakamura" remains in Shitaya ward at this point in time) and admitted Yanaka village into each town among valleys in (1891) in 1891, and Yanaka Four Devas Teramachi was established at this time, too.
  • It becomes Taito-ku with 23 constituency systems in (1947) in 1947. Each Yanaka town is performed a consolidation of with (1966), house indication enforcement in 1966 and becomes current Yanaka (a part of Yanaka Four Devas Teramachi at the south end incorporates Yanaka Shimizu-cho into 2, Uenosakuragi each in Ikenohata 3.4 chome).

Origin of the place name

Because the origin of the name is located in the valley of Hongodai and Uwanodai, I am told that it was named.
