"The history of manners and customs" is history of European people written by Eduard Fuchs. I introduce the manners and customs led by the common people using a picture document of the time. It is said that it is the national treasure-like classic that glory years of the German capitalism produced [1].

About the characteristic of this book, Tokutaro Yasuda of the translator writes it down as follows.
Because Fuchs was intended that it grew by the words of the people and spoke the history of the European people with breath in this book, as for the gathered picture, there were very many comics and caricatures which hit the essence of a popular thing and politics and the manners and customs in the times, and even Europe was the history of the first people in this sense.

Original book
It is Illustrierte Sittengeschichte vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart, and the original title is all six volumes. It was published from 1909 through 1912 by Albert Langen (Verlag für Literatur und Kunst, München). However, I am considered to be a prohibition of sale book by Hitler, and there is baked process.

Japanese translation
Tokutaro Yasuda translates this book into Japanese.
First translation was published from 1953 through 1959 by Kobunsha, but went out of print. From 1966 through 1967, it was published in all ten volumes in the same way afterwards by Kobunsha. As for this constitution, Vol. 9 is "the bourgeois era" "the Renaissance" from "times of ギャラント" and Vol. 7 Vol. 6 from Vol. 4 Vol. 3 from Vol. 1, and last Vol. 10 is a collection of pictures.
It was published as a pocket edition in all nine volumes in 1971 by Tsunogawa library. In this version, the part of "the adding an appendix" that is not translated in the last time is translated. The images largely decrease by just that much. This version is reissued again in 1990.
