Land (Rand) is a currency of the Republic of South Africa. The currency cord of ISO 4217 is ZAR. The subsidiary units are a one-100th cent. As for the currency sign, R, cent are written in c. 2 rand = 1 pound was a rate of 1 rand = 10 shillings again and was introduced for South Africa pound that was previous legal currency at the same time as the Republic of South Africa was formed in 1961.

There was the time when I took the doubleness currency system that there was a commercial land along with a finance land in the institutional history, and the former was applied to sale and repayment of the investment means of South African securities and others South Africa held by a non-resident, and the latter was applied to business of all country by a managed currency system. However, the finance land was abolished on March 13, 1995, and I was unified by a new land.

In addition, rand is a currency of the common currency area to consist of Republic of South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Lesotho now. Furthermore, I stop an issue of Zimbabwe dollar of the own country currency as a result of hyper inflation, and rand is spent with the U.S. dollar in Zimbabwe of the neighboring country in acknowledgment of the foreign currency circulation.

Origin

The etymology of the land comes from the hilly areas which spread out to the east and west via the how ten state, wit Waters land. Johannesburg is built in the ridge of the wit Waters land and depends on the South Africa's biggest gold ore having been discovered again in the whole area. In addition, ZAR of the currency cord was adopted by Zuid-Afrikaanse Rand which wrote South African rand in Dutch.

Coin

As for the first coin, ½, 1, 2½, 5, 10, 20, a half-dollar were published in 1961 when a land was introduced. A 2 cents coin is introduced in place of 2½ cent coin in 1965, and ½ cent coin stops casting last more afterwards in 1973. A 5 rand coin is introduced a 2 rand coin each newly in 1990 in 1989. The issue of 1 or 2 cents coin was stopped for the purpose of the devaluation of the currency by inflation measures in April, 2002 by the principal objective. These are changed in the nearest 5 cents unit now.

A new 5 rand coin was published in August, 2004 like a newly-issued bank note was published as currency forged measures in February, 2005. It becomes the structure to use two kinds of metal as a characteristic (I resemble one or two euro coins or 1 or 2 British pounds coin, 2 Canadian dollars coin, 1 Argentina peso coin), and there is the carved seal of the saw-formed groove and minimum letter in form going along the edge of the currency. In addition, as for the newly-issued bank note, there is similar characteristic to a number.

Paper money

As for one or two, 10, the 20 rand bill of the series, a design and a color were modelled on that of pound note for 1,961 years equal to the first bill by the pound note of the forerunner to do a smooth shift, and the paper money which a portrait of Jan fan Lee Beck who was the first Cape Town VOC executive was described in was published. Furthermore, I wrote face value together with English in Afrikaans, and English notation was higher, and listed version, Afrikaans were high-ranking, and the custom to publish two kinds of same amount bills such as the listed version was succeeded, and the custom that was similar with the paper money published in the series in 1966 was succeeded to. It was not published the 20 rand bill while a 5 rand bill was introduced in the series newly in 1966.

A 50 rand bill was introduced into the series in addition to 2, 5, 10, a 20 rand bill in 1984 in 1978, and the design was largely changed, too. In addition, the same amount bill became the publication only for one kind, and they were high-ranking, and 2, 10, a 50 rand bill listed Afrikaans, and English was high-ranking, and 5, 20 rand were listed. But the portrait of Jan fan Lee Beck was not changed.

In the 1990s, a design was changed to five kinds of wild animals. 2, 5 rand consist of paper money the publication with the coin, and 100, a 200 rand bill are introduced in addition to 10, 20, a 50 rand bill from 1994.

As for the 2005 series, face value did not have a change, and a change was not done in a basic design either. But euryon was drawn as currency forged measures newly, and the paper money using the special ink technology which a color changed into to a face value bill more than 50 rand more was published. Face value is listed in English, the back by English and the others 2 language among all 11 South African official language languages in a table.

In 2012, new paper money was published. The portrait of the animal described in appearance is changed on the back side, and the portrait of the Nelson Mandela ex-President is described in appearance newly till then.
