Junkers Ju 288 (Junkers Ju 288) is a German bomber designed during World War II. The prototype that 22 planes were the first among made inner の made the first flight on November 29, 1940, but was finished at a trial manufacture stage.

Development

The bombing force of Luftwaffe was comprised of the body which only restrictive ability had prior to the outbreak of war of World War II mainly. Originally the several class was a body developed for the purpose of private use and the design modern in earnest alone was only Junkers Ju 88, but held many problems in a body placed on duty while I had the performance that Ju 88 surpassed than other models. Probably the most famous thing couldn't but suspend a bomb across the outside the plane for bomb bay in the very small body in a problem and was that this reduced flight performance.

Junkers company studied the improvement type of various Ju 88 equipped with ユンカースユモ 222 or the ユンカースユモ 223 engine which largely increased the output since 1937. Of these, there was not the model considered in earnest, but design plan of EF.74 was submitted to the Germany Air Ministry (RLM) Heinrich Teru Hel (Heinrich Hertel) in 1939 by Heinkel Corporation after I transferred to Junkers company. The beginning of EF.74 extended Ju 88 basically, and the main wing was the same as the body extended with basic constitution and each part of body. However, the nose was completely designed again and was equipped with a supercharge-type cockpit. All armament was remote-controled for the placement to the place that was advantageous to the securing of effective candlepower and airtight maintenance of the body. The body less had to be equipped with a bomb to a suspension of the outside the plane by being extended, and securing a payload of 8,000 lb (3,630 kg) in the body for big bomb bay. The performance improved by being able to be equipped with all bombs before an opportunity and the engine which the output enlarged markedly in comparison with Ju 88.

RLM published the demand specifications of "the "B bomber "plan" in July, 1939. Ju 88 became the A bomber retrogradedly. The B bomber plan was intended to update a medium bomber deployed in Luftwaffe, and it was designed newly based on EF.74, or a body having equal performance was demanded. The B bomber was equipped with high speed, supercharge cockpit and 重防御武装 for substratospheric altitude cruises than Ju 88 and it was double the bomber before accessible flying range, one generation and planned a weapon burden of powerful 4,000 kg equivalent to to point of the British mainland of any place. Several companies accepted suggestion, but these were formal things, and EF.74 has been already decided in adoption plan. Only Foche-Wulf Fw 191 and Dornier Do317 progressed in remaining design plan submitted to until a prototype stage.

The production of the prototype began without an interval, and the first prototype was completed at mid-1940. The engine was going to be equipped with ユンカースユモ 222 24 cylinder liquid-cooled engine, but the trial manufacture first issue machine was equipped with BMW 801 by a problem in the development of ユモ 222 instead and flew. ユモ 222 which could fly the beginning was not delivered until October, 1941, and it was clear that even this point could not shift to all scale production. I suggested that Junkers Corporation replaced it with considerably from ユモ 222 heavy Daimler-Benz DB606 in June, 1942 when I understood that I did not seem to become the engine that ユモ 222 was suitable for practical use.

While these technical difficult problems were handled, the lack of the strategic bombing policy in Luftwaffe left a vague thing for a duty and a purpose of Ju 288 through a development period. RLM ordered Junkers Ju 188 of the upgraded version that made some changes to Ju 88 which adopted the basic design of the cockpit of Ju 288 as a makeshift. I was able to continue working on development of Ju 288, but the project was abandoned because a priority of Luftwaffe suddenly moved to mother country defense in 1944.

Derivation type

  • Ju 288A: The first prototype equipped with BMW engine. Seven production.
  • Ju 288B: The prototype that a body and armament extended a little were strengthened. Seven production.
  • Ju 288C: The prototype (only four planes are completed) of last eight planes equipped with Daimler-Benz engine. This model was chosen in 1944 by a mass production type, but the development program was abandoned before beginning a mass production.
  • Ju 288D: A mock-up of Ju-288C which improved the armament of the tailpiece.
  • Ju 288G: Design plan of the anti-warship model armed with a 355mm recoilless cannon.
